I worked help desk for GEnie Online Services (competitor to AOL). We got calls from people looking for support for their Genie Garage Door openers, the beginning of those call were often eerily similar: "I can't open GEnie" "I am having a window problem" "The installation failed"

...I had always used some different names but never felt particularly married to any of them. However, after that day I decided that my name must be Axton, though I kept my numbers at the end. Those numbers were the first autogenerated numbers I had since my first days on AOL.

@Kickstarter Yahoo and AOL were untouchable once, too. You'll never see our projects again unless you drop this entirely. We're not giants, but we're not tiny either. And there are lots that feel the same as we do.

@javierodoyle i wanted a WebTV so bad when they first came out. Apparently dodged a bullet with that service. lol Funny story. My Dad signed up for AOL and accidentely signed up for per minute (that was a thing).... lol. almost had a heart attack when the bill came. lol
