Using a phone line and dialing up the service meant you were connecting to the world, it felt like a magical experience. Hearing 'You got mail' and your AIM notifications going off was the first dopamine hit for people being addicted to social platforms - but it was different. You were not online for long durations - usually, just to login for 5 - 15 minutes to check your messages, read some quick news, and log off. Mom had to use the phone after all and you couldn't stay on all day. Today's internet is an always on experience, making it hard for people to disconnect and touch grass / hang out with family and friends.

jojimbo (@jojimbo_) reported@dakroot I started...1994? Intro to computer science I was sold & never looked back. ICQ (messenger) predated aol msgr, it was pretty cool, & i did like chatrooms. I worked nights & usually stayed up all night doing homework, so they were good ways to "socialize" around my crazy hours.

RealCoachI (@Coach_I5) reported@ChrisMizTV @CFBDirect Man, i’ve been just playing offline while watching movies and whatever because i don’t dare risk my Dynasty while watching, but it is just sad. The entire mode is slow and clunky. I feel like i’m on AOL in 1996.

Charles (@CharlesBWI) reported@daniel_koss Current snapshot, maybe undervalued??? Long term...subject to change (eg. Yahoo, AOL, Prodigy, Cisco, Nortel, etc. ) anything can happen. They can 100X or crash....nobody can prognosticate 20 years down the road, but for now make the money get the bag and hedge and pivot IF, (emphasis) IF needed).
