Kids these days will never understand the thrill of risking destroying the family computer with a virus over an AOL cd-rom with 20 minutes of internet browsing time.

@BeschlossDC @PBS Holy crap...I saw that on the AOL news ticker right before all hell broke loose. At first I was confused but then reality struck... It's the images of the jumpers that I can't even unsee..Ever. I still find it hard to watch clips of it. 21 yrs might as well be 21 secs ago.

9/11…The TV was never on in the morning, and after my son went off to school I’d sign on to AOL to get the latest news. But after trying for 1/2 an hour I called AOL in frustration at not being able to sign on. The woman’s response “TURN ON YOUR DAMN TV”. I saw the 2nd plane hit

  • alanhett Alan Hettinger (@alanhett) reported

@Matt_Levine_1 Maybe they are leaving an opening with their horrible 1995 AOL web experience or maybe not. They have “industry standard can’t go wrong for picking them for your LOC” armor for now but I think gen Z is going to say I’m not clicking on that when they become the decision makers.

  • thebouncingbird Skele-kate (@thebouncingbird) reported

@BWJones I found out because a teacher had a radio in his classroom. Social media was barely Friendster, LiveJournal, and I think AOL chatrooms were winding down.

  • DeadlyRamon Ramon Ruenes (@DeadlyRamon) reported

@zestyyzen Logged in to AOL using its proprietary software and saw "America Under Attack" with a picture of the towers burning. I thought it was a movie promotion. All the major news websites weren't available to me on a slow connection, so I had to call family members for updates.

  • aejacobs85 Andrew Eliot Jacobs 🏳️‍🌈 🗽 (@aejacobs85) reported

I might have downloaded that in 1996, after we switched to AOL and upgraded to a 56k modem. Fun Andrew Eliot Fact: the first website I ever went to on eWorld and my dad’s 14k modem was the Snoopy Homepage. That **** took FOREVER to load.
