Oh yes, and back in the waaaay old days (like 1994) internet services (or their closed-circuit predecessors like Prodigy, AOL, and Compuserve) charged BY THe HOUR for service. Think about how many people would stay off the internet if that were the truth today!

@roheblius @AndrewZarian just listened to your WCW show. I've never heard this asked/answered....did USA walking away from WWE in 99/00 possibly contribute to TNT/AOL souring on the idea of having wrestling on their channel since they were competing channels?

@ThatEricAlper Back in the mid-90s, I spent many hours (and no small amount of hourly usage fees on AOL), trying to download Linux via multiple floppy disk images over a slow dial-up connection. It was not one of my best ideas.

@YardleyShooting They took over AOL when I was still on a dial-up connection and suddenly stopped the service without warning. Went to use the library internet for online help and they wouldn't provide any. Still took the money, of course: Had to write one of my rather effective strong letters.
