Oh yes, and back in the waaaay old days (like 1994) internet services (or their closed-circuit predecessors like Prodigy, AOL, and Compuserve) charged BY THe HOUR for service. Think about how many people would stay off the internet if that were the truth today!

@questlove They are ghosting you or they are old. I still have an aol email address that I use as a throwaway. I got an aol email today for a work issue & find that older people 60+ do still have aol, not gmail.

@questlove Guilty of the AOL addy 😩, none of those things apply to me, I’m just too damn lazy.

@SteeleDaddy God the I Love Lucy chat room on AOL was the worst

  • cory_foy Cory Foy (@cory_foy) reported

It was a finance startup, run as one of Steve Case's companies, as in, AOL Steve Case. We even came up with a plan to distribute basically gift cards on cereal boxes just like AOL CDs because it was a lower customer acquisition cost. Anyway...

  • DNewcomer Str8upD (@DNewcomer) reported

@strandjs I used AOL to find a room called “People who want to *****”... then I played the recycling game on my mom’s 🖥 . I figured it would be a fun, entertainment place. Never anything serious

  • BusterBluth8 Buster Bluth (@BusterBluth8) reported

@JC1053 It's funny seeing history repeat itself.... We were doing this same crap from our dorm rooms in 2000 on Yahoo and AOL chat rooms. It was fun until I lost it all a year later and had to take a semester off to pay for rent... And for the few unlucky bastards that went to jail.

  • Richardsmps56 Rick Simpson# (@Richardsmps56) reported

How do scammers identify s target? I get several emails daily (only from google, never from my AOL account) about Well Fargo or Chase or PayPal having sent me money and is always hundreds of thousands of dollars. Do folks fall for this crap? Wish they quit.

@lorakolodny Reminds me of qualcom, rambus, aol trading up and down $75 a day on rumours

  • TheClarksTale Lawyer Dog (@TheClarksTale) reported

@MorlockP Back when we were just friends (mid-90s), I got my now-wife an AOL subscription as an easy way to get online for the first time. She discovered Borderlands online groups, and her friends from that - some never met - are among her closest still.
