@nytimes I have never been on Facebook, I thought it was a ripoff of AOL at its heights—mid 1990s to about 2005. I never saw a need to join Facebook; I doubt that I ever would at this juncture. I don’t understand this news bcuz I don’t understand Facebook.

So, you think Facebook is bad and is ruining society? Well, let me remind you about AOL chat rooms in the late 90s, that did what FB is doing now, allowing any crazy to post misinfo. This is not a new problem.

@_FREEGAS_ Nah I fully agree. AOL wasn’t the best messenger service but it was early. So what are we buying?

@eliomen Yes, this. The tech solutions never delivered, in many cases because UX was an afterthought. I think about people fleeing AOL and landing in the internet. What's the analogous experience here?

@shambrookben @AuntHortense I remember the early days of AOL messenger, a bunch of us were doing pig play with a New Jersey housewife, and we realized that we could also be texting a 14 yr old and we would never have known.
