@PhillyMike My best friend worked in one of the towers. Luckily he went to work later than most people. There was no cell service that day so the only way to finally communicate with him was via AOL IM lol

I get a notification from AOL- this 22-year-old student athlete tragically passed away; I'm reading the story about this great kid, his leadership & he's loved by everyone. After it, there's an arrow to click: "Shop Now". Who TF goes shopping after reading this terrible story?

@jack I first heard the line about the "noble purpose" of social media as an AOL employee in the 00s. It was supposed to be a free & open marketplace of ideas. Too bad that concept didnt monetize well enough to satisfy shareholders, giving us the pay-to-play plantation we have today.
