    @PhillyMike My best friend worked in one of the towers. Luckily he went to work later than most people. There was no cell service that day so the only way to finally communicate with him was via AOL IM lol

    @WhatsMyPot I had AOL for the longest time, and at some point, my uncle ended up with a Sympatico dial-up account, no idea where it came from it just got passed amongst friends. I'd say 50 people used that thing. We used that **** for years somehow.

    @loather @ravenlore This made me laugh. At the height of AOL disc madness I lived in a high-rise apartment building. The discs didn't fit in our mailboxes, so every time AOL mailed them to residents en masse, the poor front desk staff had to fill out a package slip for EVERYONE IN THE BUILDING.

    The all cash deal keeps things like that off the record. But AOL Instant Messenger integration and online status opens up a whole other digital connective can of worms - coincidentally this occurs as AOL Time Warner moves away from the OG service and splits off mega merger co.

    @harlequinambz @WWEGareth They had bad stuff, EB was burnt out the AOL merger was causing them to become less innovative and to top it all by October of that year Russo was in charge so yeah it was a bad year but got a lot worse in 2000
