@PhillyMike My best friend worked in one of the towers. Luckily he went to work later than most people. There was no cell service that day so the only way to finally communicate with him was via AOL IM lol

@SpaceTimeAlien @draeonic @alexstamos The scale on that chart is a problem. 500 million people is still 1/16 of the world’s population; it’s just a lot smaller than 2 billion. The chart also leaves off sites that declined in popularity over that time frame, like MySpace and AOL.

Be thankful if you didn't have to live during the era of needing a landline telephone in order to hook up the internet and still have that thing load up slow as hell. I remember getting the free AOL trial discs in the mail.
