Crypto L1s must come to terms with the fact they’re destined to be something running in the background (a protocol) and not a marketable product in and of itself. Those that don’t take heed of this may be destined to live through a (very) scaled down version of AOL in the 1990s

@LostVikingShip @liron @benedictevans And bear in mind in 1996 AOL was still charging an *hourly fee*. So forget the $19 a month, people were paying huge amounts for access. Use cases were never a barrier for internet adoption for consumers. The cost and speed were the issue.

@agraham999 @lab_leak you're looking at something akin to the shift from Sierra Online / AOL to the open Internet, where application functionality moves to the edges of the network rather than being controlled by service providers at the core. anyone who raises rates loses TX flow and goes bankrupt
