FACEBOOK & TWITTER might want to check themselves. They may THINK they have a monopoly on Social Media now so they can pull this censorship crap, but I'm old enough to remember when AOL seemed like the only game in town too. Competition CAN & WILL happen. #DontBurnBridges

@BrandonTalks @ChrisPirillo Ugh, I still remember my ICQ #. Not gonna lie, but I still peruse the occasional IRC to this day. As for AOL - to this day I blame them for the onslaught of ads that permeated the 'net. Before them, banner ads weren't a thing. T'was better when they were on their own network.

@Nicola_Slawson Hey don't mock... I was busy editing and sending out a weekly fanzine using AOL mail before e- newsletters were even a thing! I had subscribers from Bury St Edmunds to Billericay. Never fulfilled my teenage potential

@Cryptostasia1 @GRTLINK Number of tokens have nothing to do with mass market appeal. Developers pay for API access now for data and AWS. So those two points do not worry me. Average end customer will not pay for Web3 access. Mass adoption of internet didn’t happen when AOL charged.

@Shatter242 @webjedi Aol was a mainframe at its heart, took years to migrate off it. Some properties stayed online because of ad revenue, even though the service was basically dead.

@Hal_RTFLC @atomickristin @crazyfillyjonk Can't overstate that phone thing, either - "witnessed awful news event or local unfolding event that I have feelings about ---> hours until after work or class to calm down before even going to AOL to chat about it" vs. instant outrage megaphone
