@Xandara The chat rooms! And then getting a long distance charge on our phone bill cause the dial up numbers for AOL weren’t free for our area, even though they were the same area code and pre-fix for phone numbers that weren’t long distance………….

The amount of spam @gmail is letting in is ridiculous. Whoever is marketing and sending to a (clearly fake) @AOL.com address is beating their spam filter left and right. Piss poor job @Google i expected better from a service that can machine learn who I regularly speak to & about

@Dustmopp31 It took me 7 yrs to get my Great Aunt (who turned 90 this year!) to cancel her AOL dial up account & switch to high speed internet in 2020! She kept saying, "It's fast enough for me." She never used it but kept it in case she wanted to use it! She didn't get that it was useless.

@Casey Agreed. Sometimes older tech was better tech. People can laugh at me but I missed the days of AOL (except for the slow speeds). Things were simpler, and yet moderated so you could get things done without spending the day reading troll posts. It was a tamer old west.

@terminalyill3st I would never ask Jeeves for a wife, that's going to go down to some weird pathways and possibly end up on a watchlist. That said, I pre-date ask Jeeves. I remember the deep magic of AOL keywords and 5 mb monthly limits.
