  • ckeckholm
Eveliany (@ckeckholm) reported from Phoenix, Arizona

@Xandara The chat rooms! And then getting a long distance charge on our phone bill cause the dial up numbers for AOL weren’t free for our area, even though they were the same area code and pre-fix for phone numbers that weren’t long distance………….

  • Foradancer
Nancy Iannuzzi (@Foradancer) reported from Phoenix, Arizona

@pugnaciouskvz1 @AOL God I hope he doesn’t get involved. Everything he touches turns to crap.

  • Dita1960Ls
Lisa Schuler (@Dita1960Ls) reported from Phoenix, Arizona

@rkrosalyn31 @AOL Oh I know I I was just thinking how he released that piece of **** and he is a murderer got to be careful everything he does is for a reason

  • NelsonG
Nelson G (TEXXXAS) (@NelsonG) reported from Phoenix, Arizona

The amount of spam @gmail is letting in is ridiculous. Whoever is marketing and sending to a (clearly fake) @AOL.com address is beating their spam filter left and right. Piss poor job @Google i expected better from a service that can machine learn who I regularly speak to & about

  • NadinaCP
Nadina Cole-Potter (@NadinaCP) reported from Phoenix, Arizona

@JustAMomNamedMM Yes. Never again. On AOL match type sites, I used to specify no further than 1/2 hour distance from my small suburban town in the SF Bay area.

  • sheedhussle
Battōsai The Tweetslayer (@sheedhussle) reported from Phoenix, Arizona

That’s been happening. MSN/AOL Chatrooms mans used to hide being threats all the time. Most this shit been happening way before twitter. Twitter is just where folks ***** about it.

  • Sociopathlete
Noble Brown, PhD (Sociopathleticism)🗡 (@Sociopathlete) reported from Phoenix, Arizona

@49ersSFGiants1 Yeah you ain’t wrong there. Never really messed with AOL. I was on but didn’t care for it. Only talked to people I knew from school and stuff.

  • dj_voyr
DJVoyR (@dj_voyr) reported from Phoenix, Arizona

Since switching to @Mintmobile my phone now loads gifs like its on AOL speed and clarity. Sup with that? Price is cool but peace of mind it does not come with. To be fair I am in AZ and we pretty much are broken so... #SorryNotSorry #buyerbeware #thursdaymorning

@Nymphomachy iirc I got my family kicked off AOL in like middle school, because some **** from school was giving me **** via instant message and I told him I'd kill him if he didn't leave me alone

  • ToastyDecline
    dragula racer, M.E. (@ToastyDecline) reported

Like, younger folks don't really understand how bad the internet was in certain ways. I 100% guarantee I had unknowing conversations with pedos in AOL chatrooms, but since "don't tell anyone who you are online" and "don't trust internet strangers" was part of my web upbringing---

  • MemphisBelle111
Angelina says Expand SCOTUS! (@MemphisBelle111) reported

@tonyposnanski Lolololol. AOL tried double-billing me once. **** them.

Is AOL Chat Rooms not working for anyone else?

  • della_morte_
    della ~ 🍒💣 (@della_morte_) reported

@Nymphomachy Actually, thinking about this for a hot minute, even if we go with 1981 as the oldest millenial, AOL IM hit in 1997 when they were 16 so right at the age they would be using it heavily. Almost all millenials have been on the unsafe big bad internet as kids.

  • ShonnyConstant
    Shonny Constant (@ShonnyConstant) reported

Wait, Facebook was down? What are the chances it would happen just as my 500 free hours of AOL ran out. Now I'm on the hook for another year for no reason.

  • oknolisten
    📵🔨 Adult-Coded Sex Frog 📵🔨 (@oknolisten) reported

@cursed_hockey @peculiarsarah_ @RileyMiner this was my experience. i was also linked **** like ********** in aol chatrooms when i was 12 or random beheaded animal gore and there was zero way to report that **** back then.

  • CollectorsDash1
    Collectors Dashboard (@CollectorsDash1) reported

@NickRevell317 @CardPurchaser Funny you say that. I always said it was extension of phone/email. They could have integrated video, allowed better file sharing and subscription model. Teams, zoom and Slack all in one. But they had 2010 AOL and Yahoo management or a 3-legged cat burying **** on a frozen pond.

  • RobertJSalvador
    Y Combinator (s21) l DigiBuild l Blockchain l Tech (@RobertJSalvador) reported

@twobitidiot I agree with most of this but I do think enterprise blockchain onboards society into a fully decentralized web 3 one day. Similar to how AOL broke the ground for today’s Web 2.0 winners. Some companies need a slow transition and enterprise blockchain does have its uses.

  • d_d_jones
    Darrell Jones - ✍️HMPBs (@d_d_jones) reported

@ScottMStedman And I don’t know how AOL is now but we had to send them voluminous packet dumps and tell them how to fix something so that some of our users could use them. A network. Go figure. 😜
