@Xandara The chat rooms! And then getting a long distance charge on our phone bill cause the dial up numbers for AOL weren’t free for our area, even though they were the same area code and pre-fix for phone numbers that weren’t long distance………….

The amount of spam @gmail is letting in is ridiculous. Whoever is marketing and sending to a (clearly fake) @AOL.com address is beating their spam filter left and right. Piss poor job @Google i expected better from a service that can machine learn who I regularly speak to & about

@JustAMomNamedMM Yes. Never again. On AOL match type sites, I used to specify no further than 1/2 hour distance from my small suburban town in the SF Bay area.

@people Going out in public wearing and wearing work branded clothing or forgetting to take off my badge when AOL was going unlimited was a nightmare...but I never felt unsafe. Things have changed in that regard over the last 25 years. 😢

@JohnCornyn @RonDavidH It's a pretty high bar - a shopping mall isn't, for instance. And it has only been addressed tangentially in federal court so far, and they decided that it wasn't on the issue of AOL offering email spam filters. But it's a much different internet in ~25 years, needs revisited

All these people who have an issue with actions Twitter took really wouldn’t have liked the IRC cop ban hammer or the AOL ToS ban hammer.

@Oatmeal I'm surprised they let you know, rather than do like AOL and keep collecting payments for dial-up service for years after people stopped using it. I bet the portion of "Subscriber doesn't notice he's still subscribed" revenue for these companies is significant.
