@ccwu I remember being a Quantum Link subscriber on my Commodore 64 and 300 baud modem and that service disappearing fairly quickly. I only learned later from Kara Swisher's book on AOL that Quantum Link was the precursor to AOL.

@octothorpe PCPursuit wasn’t shenanigans. Totally legit service that let you use TeleNet (dial up backbone used by aol and compuserve) to make outbound calls in other regions. Was like $30/month. Now you could get to places to learn about shenanigans using it…

  • futurebird I won't forget the sirens of March. (@futurebird) reported

My mom called a hacker posing as tech support by accident, but realized what he was doing just in time. But giving her advice is FRUSTRATING because she basically won't listen to anything I tell her to do. -get rid of AOL -use 2 factor -get rid of Norton -get an adblocker

  • AltoonaYerPiano Matthew Villani (AltoonaYourPiano) (@AltoonaYerPiano) reported

@libyajamahiriya That sounds like one of those obviously bullshit stories that would've been included in one of those old AOL e-mail forwards from the late 90's/early 00's. Remember those? The ones that claimed things like **** was an acronym for "ship high in transit".

  • J_Potter Josh Potter (@J_Potter) reported

@WesleyDarington AOL Instant messaged a 16 yr old or something. Honestly, I don’t care. John Lennon beat his wife and wrote about it in a book and we still suck down his horse ****, so I really really don’t care.

  • grargamar Hiroshi Paradox (@grargamar) reported

If the Apocalypse had happened in 1997 we'd be fighting and killing each other with shurikens made of AOL CDs. ...I liked getting AOL FLOPPIES because I could re-used those to download shareware games from my dad's internet-connected PC to play on my hand-me-down 386

  • Joe__Byrnes Joe (@Joe__Byrnes) reported

Kids these days will never know what it’s like to put an AOL CD into a computer for 100hrs of free internet...

  • DoubleHypocrisy Double Standard Hypocrisy (@DoubleHypocrisy) reported

@jenjones207 @VP Because you still are using AOL dial up. Stop being an idiot.

@LanghorneSlim Don't feel bad, I have a friend still on AOL.
