@octothorpe PCPursuit wasn’t shenanigans. Totally legit service that let you use TeleNet (dial up backbone used by aol and compuserve) to make outbound calls in other regions. Was like $30/month. Now you could get to places to learn about shenanigans using it…

@DerekGameDev @arthur_affect yeah, before 2.5 AOL was just another BBS type service like Prodigy and Compuserve, because the world wide web didn't exist yet.

  • prplchknz Purple L Chickens (@prplchknz) reported

@JoeHolder_ Because capitalism. Aol knew we were going to eventually pay them. But for stuff that would actually save us, they don't give a **** about. I realize this is pessimistic but look around and you know it's true.

  • totowatony Totowatony (@totowatony) reported

So @AOLSupportHelp . You sent me a dm. But it didn’t address the issue, just some crap about IF this is happening do this. Well this WASN’T happening , so thanks for the NO HELP

The horrifying moment when you realize that AOL, on its worst day, was a vastly superior steward of the internet than Facebook on its very best day.

@bodh_io Yep, dial up (AOL). Uphill, in the snow, both ways. IYKYK One of the perks of working for @NIUNorthernStar was that we had ethernet connections to the university mainframe. Fast, for those days. Sucked going home to slower than slow dial-up.

  • ACryptoCowboi Crypto Cowboi (@ACryptoCowboi) reported

@Pentosh1 LMAO. 1995, as I signed up for AOL, a friend said: "One day, you'll be taking market signals from an anonymous bionic penguin who catches dips with a fishing net." So I dropped him off at a rehab facility. My bad, bro.

  • ParadoxTalksTtv **** bogan (@ParadoxTalksTtv) reported

@AlaskaComm Worst internet I’ve ever had in my entire life I miss AOL dial up it was better then this trash they over charge for.

  • StoicSteph S M F (@StoicSteph) reported

If you didn’t have Missy Elliott’s “HOLLA!” as your AOL sign in… You missed the golden years.

  • ModerateInvest Moderate Investor (@ModerateInvest) reported

@Thiiago_Slva @Kenya91832403 @netflix So true, paying Netflix is like paying AOL in the 90's for access to the internet. It's only a matter of time before the owners sell their own product and cut out the reseller.
