Matt Seitz (@seitz2all) reported from Milpitas, California
@maximlott @PCivilization @PrisonPlanet The barriers to creating a web site are far lower than creating a power company. We’ve had competing social network companies for years, from AOL to MySpace to G+. Creating another WalMart would be harder, but we don’t demand they give away products for free.

@ccwu I remember being a Quantum Link subscriber on my Commodore 64 and 300 baud modem and that service disappearing fairly quickly. I only learned later from Kara Swisher's book on AOL that Quantum Link was the precursor to AOL.

An integration for @SlackHQ that lets you have your previous AOL sign-on song when you become active, and that horrible door closing sound when you log off or leave a stupid channel in fury.

@FadeTrades @AllBusinessPump Except that isn't what I did. I pointed out your misstatement. AOL was not a close ended business replaced by an "open Internet protocol". TCP/IP existed well before AOL, was used as a part of AOL's network, and is still used now. AOL just had dial-up over PPP, what's closed?

@LlysseWylle The "promise" of good net has been made every four years for as long as I can remember. As someone who still uses AOL well that is a LONG TIME. Every time they use "consultants" to review the subject. Hand me half what you pay them and I will tell you FIX THE INFRASTRUCTURE!
-
John Reid IV (@JohnReidIV) reported
@view_raw @justaguy620 @ShaneX1515 The network was still owned by Turner at the time so he wouldn’t abandon his project until he sells to to AOL.

Jason Hankins (@Jason_Hankins) reported
@OrangeFreddyG I made my AOL account in my late teens, so my email is just embarrassing enough that it makes me chuckle if I ever have to give it to a customer service person. Do you remember Compuserve? That’s where I cut my internet teeth.

@PrasadKarwa @ArtofLiving @iahv Thanks for posting. I was in the middle of an argument with a friend about what service AOL has been doing in this pandemic. :)

@AOLSupportHelp The issue resolved itself after being unable to access for about 8 hours. I saw numerous complaints on the internet of other people having the same issue. Thanks for following up though.
