  • jhamby Jake Hamby (@jhamby) reported from Los Angeles, California

    @sarahjeong I have no idea what he's worked up about. I just read what you wrote and it all made perfect sense to me. I have no love for Google or Facebook, but the law is what it is so that a previous generation of service providers (AOL & friends) wouldn't be sued out of existence.

  • wyntermitchell Wʏɴᴛᴇʀ Mɪᴛᴄʜᴇʟʟ (Rᴏʜʀʙᴀᴜɢʜ) (@wyntermitchell) reported from Los Angeles, California

    I spiraled for 2-3 years from 14-17 making collages & fake radio shows, swaying to Fiona & Bjork while running AOL fan fiction chatrooms & modifying fish filets but I was performing Veronica Sawyer...literally no one gave a shit...or much less would have followed me on Instagram

  • beachgrad05 beachgrad05 (@beachgrad05) reported from Cypress, California

    @kevinandbean my brother had AOL and when he died in 2006, I contacted them to cancel. The ******* with AOL kept to his script they use to prevent canceling about how my brother may need access in future to HIS email. I was so angry by time I finally got off the phone.

    @dakami @arbissell @PhenomenalPoto MCI Worldcom had a real product & people loved their service. They built out the internet. Enron had products. Sunbeam had products. Adelphia, Global Crossing, AOL, Tyco, Valeant - guess what they had. Products. Having a real product doesn’t mean you have a sustainable business

    did dial-up ever have downtime? like obv you had to explicitly connect to it so it was never "always up" but i don't remember trying to get on AOL and having a message like "sorry try again later"

  • iamnotlinda Linda (@iamnotlinda) reported

    @NotNate_19 @KimberlyNFoster Times like these, I'm grateful that my teenage self was only allowed to make an *** of myself on AOL forums. Use some sense, child, and never attach a real photo.

  • VickyMorgan001 Vicky Morgan (@VickyMorgan001) reported

    @AOL That is bad 🥲

  • coolpowers coolpowers@mastodon.social (@coolpowers) reported

    @iznaut When I first moved to the US we lived in rural Iowa and used a local ISP (there wasn’t a local AOL number). Local ISPs meant a limited number of lines - once school got out you’d get a busy signal when trying to connect if you weren’t fast enough.

  • GasliterInChief Let the MAGAs Tantrum (@GasliterInChief) reported

    @NoMoreWalkIns And don’t get me started on AOL and Comcast, which require some special secret code to work with the Mail app, which means customer has to sign into their account, which means they have to know their password, which means…problems.

  • mobiquotes MobiQuotes (@mobiquotes) reported

    Our independence from AOL was so important to me that I negotiated an extremely odd provision in our purchase agreement that allowed me to disclose confidential information about AOL. It was their job never to give me that information. It was not my job to protect it in any way.

  • CherylYelverto5 Cheryl Yelverton (@CherylYelverto5) reported

    @laurenboebert Good for Lauren Boebert socking it to smarty pants aol!!! I have never known anyone as unknowledgeable as AOL is.
