Clare Goggin Sivits (She/Her) (@beergoggins) reported from Portland, Oregon@mistrchristophr Early in my career, I worked for AOL (yes, really) and the developers who built/maintained the website I managed pronouncer it “earl”. To this day, I have NEVER heard anyone else say it that way so either they were ******* with me or they were trying to make fetch a thing 🤔

Stephen J. Weber (@francehopper) reported from Portland, OregonMother of god. Mihoyo might have actually QA’d the 1.2 build of Genshin before rolling it out. Text bugs are mostly fixed, HDR support, and loading screens are no longer like waiting to connect to AOL. The dumpster fire is finally no more.

Lo 🌞 (@lo__foto) reported from Portland, Oregon@RachelWenitsky I still have an aol email address that I send most of my unwanted promotional shit I sign up for to and some old subscriptions I never moved over to my gmail 😂😂
-
Colin Landforce 🛠 (@landforce) reported from Portland, Oregon@seyitaylor Likely that the burden of support will fall on the brands and tools that build on the infrastructure. I’d imagine AOL support spent a lot of time early on asking customers to make sure they had the phone cord plugged in

Terminally Chill🧪🧪 (@_CHMST) reported from Portland, OregonCrazy that we used to play games like Diablo 2 on ******* dial up internet Had to open up AOL and wait for that shit to connect -then connect in game And I had to wait til night time where no one was expecting a phone call

KALY (@KALY77005361) reported@kenneth_kizza @Pariyodan07 @KakwenzaRukira How could Besigye have taken leadership at parliament when he's never been an MP? What I know is the likes of Wafula, Aol, Winnie Kiiza etc were once LoPs from FDC and the leadership of then was KB. Are you saying that he immediately left Najja after stepping down?
-
Brad (@jrade762) reported@exQUIZitely so did AOL rent the phone lines from the telecommunications companies, or did American’s have to pay service changes on top of their AOL subscription to their phone company??
-
STFU Donny (@DLMarble) reported@Ric_RTP It’s just to keep people from protesting data centers.. like all things ie. Long distance calls, cell phone minutes, AOL it will vanish or go down to being so nominal that it won’t matter.
-
Zachary Sheldon (@zdsheldon) reported@sfmcguire79 Saying that a Claude subscription can teach you how to think with AI is like saying that using AOL instant Messenger teaches you to be a network engineer. Elite schools should teach the tech that makes the product work, not lock kids into a subscription platform for life.

joefis (@joefis) reportedAOL had this thing where you could make your own website. i made one called "web surfer's corner" and it was just links to other websites i liked. i had a guestbook and lost my **** when someone from ireland left an entry.

EDF Hobbies (@DBatDad) reported@someguyonx97 @AskYoshik Internet growth was overhyped I never witnessed it's abilities and cost/value overhyped though like AI. People could readily afford internet access and 5th graders could use it to its potential via AOL or Netscape. Not so much for AI We agree the bubble pop is going to be big

Casey K 🇺🇸 (@KlepperCasey) reportedOpen Ai = AOL circa 2000 There are so many Ai models catching up to.. and now passing Open Ai.. and ironically it’s because they are a closed source model. Their economics are fatally flawed. And they have an awful CEO. AOL was popular because people back in the 90’s people thought it was the best (and/or only) way to access the internet and email. Turned out aol was just first. Not the best or only. Just like Chat GPT. Open Ai was the first to market with Chat.. and has lived off that advantage. BUT - that is OVER now. So many Ai companies are passing Chat GPT in cost and performance… (This is why $MSFT and $ORCL are down this year,, they hitched their wagons to the wrong Ai player) Scam Altman is a charlatan and he will drive that company into the ground. $MSFT knows this now and wants out

dane garrus, dweeb (@dorkweeb) reported@ExistentialEnso More like saying “I’ve never used Hotmail” or “I’ve never used AOL” or “I’ve never used Netscape Navigator.”

RichardJK (@RichardJKPE) reported@girdley The worst was Time Warner's purchase of AOL.
