@Michael37822549 @ChrisMousse3 @JuliaHB1 So you're happy paying a licence fee if it gets spent on other things than just the BBC? What about the support of the Freeview network that allows free-to-air TV to he broadcast. Or the broadband roll-out. Or SC4? That's not a Welsh language station.

  • barongreenbacks Tim Binsley #JohnsonOut (@barongreenbacks) reported

Secondly, that ‘expensive’ licence fee does so much more than fund the BBC. It also part funds C4, it maintains the freeview network and the radio broadcast network, meaning that that £159/year or £13.25/month is doing a hell of a lot of work.

  • JezParton Jez Parton (@JezParton) reported

@mitchyj_ @sophielouisecc No it's not. It provides far more than ITV, for example. What funds the Freeview +transmission network (which many pensioners use to access TV). That's right, the BBC licence fee.

  • pjtobin00 Paddy (@pjtobin00) reported

@AudsDisease @SkyNews What about Freeview channels? The license fee also goes to maintaining the Freeview network

  • __Darling_ Darling (@__Darling_) reported

The only other thing I will say is that practically, it's also a tax on simply owning a tele. Because I can't just have a tv in my house and enjoy freeview and theoretically never watch the BBC, you still get charged. you can't opt out of the BBC and enjoy freeview

  • topimp21 Central ₿ank Robber (@topimp21) reported

@Takethatjoe @darrengrimes_ Oh my god, how would our TV's ever work without Freeview 😱 After all,it's well known that in every other country where BBC-funded Freeview isn't available, TV broadcasting simply doesn't work.

  • dougmcfarlane41 Douglas Mcfarlane (@dougmcfarlane41) reported

@RevRichardColes Richard, August 10th in Teesside we lost Freeview signal due to a transmitter fire, we only got our signal back from a temporary transmitter but even then only limited channels all BBC & nothing else no ITV/C4/C5 ie not much choice. During the 4 months of no FREEVIEW most people

@PCarmichaelVO @NadineDorries And there lies the problem, very few people speak Welsh/Gaelic and yet millions is poured into it, not value for money. It's not freeview if we are paying a licence fee for it.

@cononeilluk Currently impossible to put a paywall on Freeview which many people use to access BBC, ITV, Ch 4, Ch5 or any radio stations. So how exactly could BBC become a subscription service?
