@MaddFan1 Same thing happened to me a few years ago, I was quite happy watching @AJEnglish on Freeview and then suddenly it went on to freeview HD, which my box wasn't. My problem was finally solved when they started broadcasting live on Youtube.

@Sharon43068108 Very annoying! They are now showing the same match on BBC 1 AND 2. We are in a hotel room son only have Freeview. Going to watch Bridget Jones Diary on itv2 - I have my fingers crossed it's not too rude for the kids 🤣 (from what I remember, I think it's ok)

@Glostermeteor @MattWWoolwich Nope. The BBC was given a significant uplift in the licence fee to implement Freeview in the early 2010s. It was then allowed to keep that uplift to fund the World Service (previously FCO) and ‘free’ licences for over 75s (previously HMT). Typically it has subsequently reneged.

Ok but seriously this is actually **** Switching to streaming only when ~1.5 million houses in the UK still have no internet access and mostly rely on freeview channels for entertainment is awful. What will low economic children have for entertainment now

@Mancman10 You could even have a tax paid somehow to fund the work in upgrading Freeview etc. I just don’t believe and never have the bbc should have a fee attached to it

@Hazzreid @fitgeek_uk No they make money from commercials. The issue as I understand it is the BBC own freeview and receive money from commercial stations for a channel space. So essentially they can charge for freeview use via a licence fee. Sadly itv sold freeview to the BBC.

@B2theRich It was dreadful. Three out of five is extremely generous. It's the type of terrible b-movie you see on a random Freeview channel at 2pm in the afternoon.

@Cyanosis1966 @BATC_London @DPJHodges 1) How do you (technically) have a subscription service that doesn’t require a set top box/internet connectivity? 18m people use Freeview, & 1.8m households have no internet access 3) If you need to pay £20/month to Sky/Virgin to access it, it is more expensive than a licence fee

@Robbie__Bell @ITVX Just finished watching The Twelve - painful experience to say the least - ad breaks not close tent, sound issues, long black gaps - tried on Freeview and Sky and it’s just as bad either way! So glad I don’t pay for premium!!!!
