@AlStewartOBE @GBNEWS Shame I missed your broadcast. Sadly I’m not at home and the Airbnb tv doesn’t have freeview. Internet also too poor to stream.

@SophieRose19x @sophielouisecc Might come as a surprise but ITV, C4 & C5 have managed fine with no public money for over 60,40&25 years. All free, never mind other channels on freeview, you know they use this thing called advertising, which if the BBC is as popular as they make out will have plenty of offers

@LDNCalling The BBC maintains the Freeview network, they broadcast all over the world and their programming caters to all tastes. State Broadcasting have a mandate to provide service for free. The licence fee is only a part of the funding the BBC receives.

@HarrietSergeant @darrengrimes_ What’s your solution? Obviously advertising is out of the question and it has to be kept on freeview to allow accessibility for all, so what do you propose?

@DarylSting @RhonddaBryant As it costs each licence payer £159, I should hope not. It's a tax that hits the less well off more. There are plenty of other channels that provide an excellent service on freeview.

@Monkeymanb0b Freeview with out the 3 BBC channels is the obvious solution. Which would be free. You could also then add subscriptions if you want them. The difference between the TV licence and Skys basic package is £6.

@theplopster1999 That already exists - called Freeview and it’s crap with virtually no new content - that is what you’d end up with for poor people - even cheapest subscription now is nearly £300 per year

@TheLordMidge @5h4k35p34r31 @guardian Amongst other routes there are plenty of freeview/sat boxes that allow access to the android App Store allowing that service to be used on a freeview certified box. It is the major funder and essentially saved the system from commercial demise.

@MattHuismanNZ @Orcon Both browser and TVNZ app work, but not through Freeview app. I have another live tv streaming service that uses IPTV Smarters and that has stopped working since the weekend. Wondering if the issues are linked.

@custardsmaster @JamesSm37912408 @EmmaKennedy Bigger point, do you access Freeview? Freeview (or to be precise, terrestrial television services) are transmitted on BBC owned multiplexes. No BBC also means the commercial channels disappear from terrestrial broadcast. Your TV licence literally pays for the transmission network
