@FreeviewAdvice we have three Freeview devices and each of them keep freezing for a couple of seconds. How do I fix this? I’ve tried retuning each of them but the issue is still there. I live in South Wales

@KarmaUnc @GMB @joshwiddicombe Yes, but the BBC is a significant contributor to Arquiva who own the masts. They also support Freeview and Freesat.

@mrjamesob @NadineDorries Not to mention the upkeep and maintenance of the entire freeview transmitter network, which is also paid for by the licence fee.

@ClaireJHartnell @Porrohman @jamiebglover Bad analogy. You can watch ITV, Channel 4, and the rest of the Freeview channels for free (clue is in the name), or you can watch Netflix or Sky etc., which you can pay for as and when you want to use them. The BBC is a non requirement both in terms of content and personal cost.

@Forces_TV Was really getting into this tonight, but sadly forces tv on my freeview has lost signal from the Com 7 transmitter 😭

@andymhamilton Is one of the ideas. Need Freeview to do encryption, probably will do in 2027. Hope it is subscription, think Beeb has something to offer, just slimmed down. Sell most radio off would help.

  • _chalkie_
    Graham White (@_chalkie_) reported

@jamiebglover You also get Freeview and Freesat, S4C, and the fibre broadband rollout, the latter being a less spoken of contribution from the licence fee, which benefits all the streaming service providers at no cost to them.

  • NMackz
    Nae McKay (@NMackz) reported

@SaraN12533752 @jim63895391 @jamiebglover It also funds Freeview and various other digital TV platforms that support live viewing of lots of other channels.

TV Licence: last time I checked, you couldn't watch TV without one (legally) and it was the only fee I paid for TV when I was younger. I had freeview, the fee may have funded the BBC, but it gave me access to so much more. Not bad value for me and I enjoy zero advert breaks.

@LDNCalling The BBC maintains the Freeview network, they broadcast all over the world and their programming caters to all tastes. State Broadcasting have a mandate to provide service for free. The licence fee is only a part of the funding the BBC receives.
