  The problems with planning to switch Freeview off: Many people still watch Freeview. Internet drops out or you get the 'circle of doom' and freezing BBC iPlayer when trying to watch something! Not everyone has or wants internet / wifi / data.

  @fin_lay24 @OldRoberts953 Nice article, Finlay! Incidentally, I can't help thinking there was more choice and variety when it was just "four boring old channels" than when freeview came along and it became all UK That's Great Drama Yesterday +1.

  @TalkTV @cjsnowdon @iancollinsuk I don’t necessarily believe a sub model would work, but as an initial step they should require subscription-based logins at least for their TV and web-based services (radio maybe less practical). Maybe just have SD broadcasts on Freeview and require streaming for HD due to practicalities (Sky shouldn’t be an issue). This way those who don’t pay (for a license) will find it hard to view, and it would also cut off more overseas users who view without paying.

  @photonvision @fwrenzo1 You will not be able to soon in the UK. That is why they are shutting down Freeview.

  There is never enough space on X for me to write what I need to. I still haven’t forgiven u @virginmedia for axing Thatstv2 and Thatstv3 at least now it’s not even on the menu wasn’t nice when u kept it up on the guide showing me what was on. Those channels r on sky & freeview

  @john_seto Have they announced the end of UHF? I'm on Freesat Vs Freeview, I lose the signal in heavy rain.

  @BENEFITS_NEWS It also eats up a lot of your broadband. No problem if you're on an unlimited package, but for people on cheaper, restricted usage packages, that will cost. Freely is good where reception is poor, but Freeview is still needed.

  @Alexandr4Denman 2034....don't worry, these buggars in control will be long gone by then. Freeview, I must be honest, I've never seen because my TV couldnt pick it up anyway. TV is now permanently off. We can find better things for pensioners to enjoy, surely?

  @CountMoriarty @dave43law Yeah its stupid. What is the positive of switching it off? Everyone would need a fire stick type of thing and apps to watch channels. They're rubbish. There's often delay/time lag and no full access to all Freeview channels. Freeview is better
