@rach0907 @LlamaBusiness Virgin's dreadful for price hikes alongside declining service. Scrapped it all when we moved, can get everything we want on Freeview/Prime/Netflix/iPlayer. Then got a Humax box so we can record stuff if we want to. EE's internet is brilliant for the price too

@Ian_gm_F @bbcpress You conveniently forgot to mention the radio stations, world service, website with free access to a whole range of educational resources for children, funding and upkeep of freeview infrastructure

If the govt wants costs to be paid for pensioners and the unemployed, put it in general taxation. So most people will still have to pay for it, but won't be able to moan about it being poor value for money. Also would preserve Freeview and radio, which are apparently popular.

@MattWWoolwich The problem is that the licence fee enables us to watch TV via Freeview. A reasonable model might be to include all that in general taxation. That way it would be funded fairly instead of the current unfair flat rate. Won't happen under the Tories though.

@MrTrevMcCarthy @DaveHogg2 @LeeJBBC I don't need the BBC if I break my leg. We generally all go to school - some pay twice if they go private. Freeview exists. How on Earth can you comment about an affordable service - how many other countries force payment to turn on your TV?

Paul Carmichael (@PCarmichaelVO) reported
@d0hertyry4n @NadineDorries Hmm. So the issue is you don’t actually know what the BBC does. As I say, maintaining transmitter masts for Freeview, educational resources every school and college uses, making programming for the disabled community…those things don’t matter?

@c_newman2010 @ruskin147 Be interested in knowing how that works since would not work over freeview and means set-top box or app on tv needed and this will impact the elderly and poor most. Knock on effect cost to run freeview for itv/c4 increases meaning likely to go subscription too

Mike Ayriss (@MikeAyriss) reported
@PCarmichaelVO @PumaBare A review of funding could, for example look at maintaining Freeview network by all broadcasters that use it paying a fee. Incidentally, how much should the BBC be providing? It's channels have proliferated. Personally, I don't mind the licence fee but I'd support a full review.

@PaulM30033923 @Radioheady2021 @NadineDorries Guess you don’t watch a single BBC televison show, radio programme, or BBC funded film or read any BBC website or make use of the Freeview transmitter network?

David Keats (@davidkeatsuk) reported
@Marc_Burrows @scottygb I mean, yes, but their thinking isn’t having the BBC on freeview. They want a new way to pay for the BBC. So if the BBC’s ends up paying for its freeview space as it was no longer a public broadcaster - the BBC might commercially decide to no longer be a service for all.Disaster
