@wheeplumb @bbcpress @BBC Well apart from the many millions of freeview users, are you saying there is no public service value to BBC television at all? Regional news for instance, which is often the most watched item of the day? Building up new British talent? No value to that?

@mrchrisaddison You can say all that and yet most people have actually stopped using "freeview" to pay for other channels. Kids ditch cbbc the second they have cartoon network, Disney and nickelodeon. Adults do the same too for other things. They like the choice.

@BBCThree One word. Shallow. Pandering to 'yoof' never works. To think 3 used to have great science and factual shows. Now look. And cramming it back on has messed up my freeview big time, so thanks for that BBC, never seem to get it right these days. #bbc3

@wheeplumb @bbcpress @BBC Except you can't have public service and subscription. And how do you make people pay over freeview. And radio.

I'd be surprised if a new weekly TV magazine launched. Although I guess it's possible, maybe one just providing listings for Freeview? Of course, not only would this depend on gaining readers, pricing would also be an issue.

@BorisJohnson People in rural Devon mid have stone-age broadband, trickle water supplies, no mains sewage, no mobile signal, no freeview signal, no public transport, but plenty of potholes and powercuts. And you want to provide football pitches with taxpayer money?
