@SpergenFlergen @bbcpress Doesn’t the license fee go towards maintaining the Freeview signal stream? So 5 of the things you mention there indirectly benefit from license fee payments as they couldn’t be broadcast without the digital signal.

Today I learned Freeview is partially funded by the BBC. I’m sure Dorries has considered all the potential implications should that service end.

@talkRADIO The ignorance surrounding the model for the bbc is astounding. The biggest issue people have seems to be with bbc news. There is no news stations in the uk that are subscription only, even sky news is on freeview. In addition it is not technically possible for radio stations

@RevRichardColes @carlistyping The BBC gets 86% of licence fee revenue. So we could drastically reduce the fee people are strong armed into paying if they were self funded. Or at least give people the option not to fund the BBC whilst keeping other Freeview Channels. Make the BBC a subscription service 👍

Nice to be on 5 Live with @Mobeen_Azhar to talk about the BBC licence fee. The BBC’s critics argue for a subscription model, but I still haven’t heard a convincing argument about how that would work for network and local radio - or on Freeview television.

@VirtuaMcPolygon @byford_ian @DavidLammy Doesn’t part of the license fee go towards maintaining the transmission network for freeview?

@Life_Disrupted + it wouldn't be free Only practical way to do subscription service is Broadband. New broadband connection for a lot of elderly £25/month Subscription min £7/month New smart TV £200 or Freeview play box £100 Helpline to help elderly navigate all those menus + new tech £1 Bn/yr

@rec777777 @SusanHu25307477 @NadineDorries Unfortunately it’s not straight forward. Anyone that uses Freeview (ITV - Ch4 etc ) it’s all accessible on the free to air model. BBCs WOKEness is coming from further down the line. Indoctrination at school and through University they take this on into the workplace

@PCarmichaelVO @NadineDorries If you want Welsh language programming pay for it yourself. The BBC's educational output is dumbed down drivel. Freeview is an obsolete technology which ties up bandwidth to show Dave Ja Vu.

@kipthebee @georgegalloway @MoatsTV What's a person to do? You'll be down to 100 odd channels. Analogue tv finished in the UK 10 years ago, it's been Freeview since.
