Freeview now is terrible in 2026, full of shovelware channels and hardly any HD channels, SD channels look awful as well.

When Freeview is turned off a mix of subscription for drama and entertainment shows and funding from general taxation for children’s, educational and current affairs programmes would seem sensible.

marc (@mbutler2007) reported@DanielHussey2 Dont think it would be good having Down Fermanagh on RTE news channel. It has limited coverage in the north . It's not on Freeview or cable or satliight in the north and saorview is limited in Co Down due to morne mountain shadow. Not the promotion the Tailteann cup was promised

Enamel (@gin_vodka_fan) reportedCOMMENT: It needs an internet subscription, also an aerial for some progs, if your internet is slow you lose all progs, the manufacturers claim it's the internet problem so you cannot return the TV. It's a complete con for the companies to save supplying Freeview. 🤔🤔🤔

Would imagine a large %tage of Irish homes subscribe to a service that gives them access to the Beeb anyway.
