@Uptotherewithit @TVSanjeev Well that stuff is paid for so just strip the woke crap & run World Service type news & all the old programs on Freeview, but not funded by a Licence Fee or the taxpayer. All other sport, comedy, films, etc can go on Advert or subscription model, and that pays for the former!

@DarylSting @RhonddaBryant As it costs each licence payer £159, I should hope not. It's a tax that hits the less well off more. There are plenty of other channels that provide an excellent service on freeview.

@zsk That’s why we watch Freeview. The problem is, many will have to work for a living, rather than being a parasite on the public purse and demanding the stealth tax by menaces

@LaylaMoran @BBCOxford If the BBC is great, it will have no trouble getting subscribers, what are you afraid of? Why force say pensioners or the poor to pay a regressive tax? They may be happy with FreeView, why should they be forced into paying for the BBC if they don't want it?

@MrJohnNicolson @theSNP discussed how Sky would affect broadcasting in the UK. And he was fearful of Murdoch's influence. It killed off the original BSB idea with the little satellite dishes. A mini network of ITV channels though technically the latter sort've returned using Freeview/Sky's platform.

@1neilhallam @RussInCheshire They are prevented from watching them if they can't pay. What if all she has is a freeview TV with no facilities to play on-demand? Noone should be denied access to such a basic thing in the 21st century. Why do you support an extra tax that can easily be abolished?

@KarmaUnc @GMB @joshwiddicombe Yes, but the BBC is a significant contributor to Arquiva who own the masts. They also support Freeview and Freesat.

@SteB777 @GeorgeMonbiot Thinking: without the licence fee, every pensioner will have to buy a subscription service - it will completely undermine the freeview concept. Or we will be left watching ITV and Channel 4 - if that survives… Then as many point out, radio… Not an easy decision for the wise…

@Fles__ @partnumber2 They wouldn't be destroying it. What are you afraid of? If the BBC is as good as you say it is, they'll have lots of subscribers, go global. For those that would prefer to save money and just use FreeView, why would you force them to pay for a service you want but they don't?
