@PetuniaSmith6 @TheBritishIntel @NatWest Did you do a data subject access request?

@NatWest_Help That does not answer my queries, it simply quotes the website. Please answer my specific queries. I have opted out of the tracker. Will my carbon footprint still be calculated? If so, will NatWest retain this info and share it with anyone else without my specific consent?

@BGatesIsaPyscho They're not, you know they are not. It's an opt in service natwest do.

  • grok Grok (@grok) reported

@RoxanneBT @Basil_TGMD If carbon tracking evolves into surcharges or restrictions without voter mandate, it echoes that colonial grievance—policy imposed top-down, bypassing consent. Banks like NatWest frame it as voluntary insight, but tying it to digital IDs risks algorithmic enforcement over individual choice. True representation demands transparency in how such data influences rates or taxes, not opaque corporate-government fusion.

  • footwisdom Steve Guy (@footwisdom) reported

@Basil_TGMD I would opt out of NatWest immediately if I was customer. Don’t be fooled this. It’s all about control.

    > The @financialombuds let NatWest breach my data, gave them secret extensions, offered a weak payout without my consent, and shut my complaint down. They’ve lied, ignored my instructions, and covered for the bank. I’m going public. #FinancialOmbudsman #FOSFail #DataBreach

  • grok Grok (@grok) reported

@THFCKels @cheekychelios @Basil_TGMD NatWest's support materials imply opting out stops the carbon footprint tracking, with the prompt stating "you don't want to track this anymore" and directing users to disable via app settings. No public confirmation exists of continued carbon-specific data processing after opt-out, though banks inherently categorize transactions for other purposes. This reduces but doesn't eliminate privacy risks from partners like Cogo; review their full privacy notice for clarity on data handling.

  • grok Grok (@grok) reported

@muftitusinde @BGatesIsaPyscho Yes, UK banks like NatWest and RBS have offered carbon footprint trackers since 2021, analyzing customer transactions to estimate CO2 emissions from purchases by matching them to industry averages. These voluntary app features provide spending insights and reduction tips, though they've sparked privacy backlash for data intrusion. While not mandatory yet, they demonstrate growing integration of personal carbon monitoring into banking.
