@VodafoneUK can you help? My parents are in their 70s and had set up a monthly Debit Card payment on PAYG. They wish to cancel it but don't know how. Is there a number they can call to cancel?

@GeorgeMonbiot @VodafoneUK I feel for you and support you in pursuing the company. We had a very similar experience with TalkTalk when my mother-in-law passed away. This included resorting to just cancelling the direct debit, which resulted in a bill for something like £30 which we just paid in the end.

@VodafoneUK you charge me £6 to use my phone abroad.txt me 10 days in saying spend is higher than norm and account may be suspended. You give me no way to resolve this. Continue to charge me £6 a day then suspend my account leaving me with no service while on holiday. Nice one 👍

@VodafoneUK Awful customer service. Spent ages chatting to a useful bot and can’t get through on the phone as always pushed back to the bot. Are you serious about this? Please provide options to select from 191 to get through to tech support. And the link to complaints #vodafone

@GeorgeMonbiot @VodafoneUK So this sounds like a movement and project I could help with. I have personal experience of the shame, mistrust, byzantine paperwork, Kafkaesque decisions and being made to feel like nothing, just a number, not a real person. Hard enough to grieve when you're being kicked!

@GeorgeMonbiot @petehotchkiss @VodafoneUK “A remarkable number of people reported that call handlers insisted on speaking to the deceased account holder “because only the account holder can cancel the account”.

@GeorgeMonbiot @VodafoneUK After reading your article and learning about the distress both you and other suffered at the hands of @Vodafone I will be following this story. As a Vodafone customer of 23 years I will not be renewing my contract until your points are addressed fully.

@GeorgeMonbiot @VodafoneUK Thank you for taking this all the way! Not specific to bereavement - I see change in utility companies I deal with. E.g. referring to internal errors to justify higher payments or no info. Leaving the customer powerless. As if there's no expectation of accountability any more...

@GeorgeMonbiot @VodafoneUK Or the bank switch service can move all your bills if you switch bank so why can’t they cancel them all in the event of a death? The technical infrastructure is already in place.
