@MissesDread About a billion years ago, when AOL was the thing, I was watching cable news. I forget the topic, but the woman news presenter swings around and say, "Let's see what they're saying on the blogosphere!" She proceeds to read Internet posts. WTF? Really? You can't get an expert?

Twenty years ago, when AOL dismantled and laid off most of what was left of Netscape, I knew a lot of people going to all sorts of tech companies. The ones who went to Amazon hated it and they were office staff. It’s sad that Bezos made all that money from being a horrible boss.

@bai0 @internetarchive I used to work for CompuServe. When AOL (damn them) shut it down, they DID NOT BACK UP THE FORUMS. Decades of the early pre-internet were lost. Actually useful and good discussions from history are gone forever. It was MAYBE 3 TB of text. I run a server with 72 tb. Tragic.

@kathrynw5 I bought in the last year of "predatory" lending. No credit card & lived in a group house with no utilities in my name. They gave me a mortgage based off of my paystub & Blockbuster/AOL subscriptions on my debit card. Basically no money down. It's the only reason I'm a homeowner
