@aolmail A family member has received the most appalling customer service from #aol. Utterly shocking. All she wants to do is reset the password as she’s been locked out & the response was effectively, go away and set up another account. She has replied, but I’m not happy.

Chris Romer-Lee (@chrisromerlee) reported from Lambeth, England
@aolmail are you considering replying to this tweet? I’ve had another response from AOL ‘support’ team which is useless. Please DM today.

When it first arrived — and I made a blog there within the first two months of its public existence — @tumblr was the near perfect blogging platform. Then AOL destroyed it. Now it’s a horrible jail where I can’t get rid of this dumb screen. Thanks @automatic.

@DavidBCollum I remember in ‘95 getting my family & I kicked off AOL for cursing off the sysop in a chat room, terms of service violation. Do you think my dad called & complained about the terms of service or made me write a letter to apologize? #privatebusinesscandowhateverthefucktheywant

@PatHedger18 If they want freedom from Big Tech they should go back to 2001. Oops microsoft/IE monopoly, never mind. They should go back to 1999. Oops AOL monopoly, never mind. ...go back to 1975. Oops IBM monopoly, never mind ...go back to pre-computer days. Oops Bell/ATT, never mind.

Jane! is reading a book (@WriterJane74) reported
@ajtweet Texting isn't a priority since her friends call. I'm the outlier. I'm hoping to figure out why she can't email photos from her iPad. I think it's a setting issue. Or the fact that she still has an AOL account.

Gabor Cselle (@gabor) reported
In this case (AOL v Zeran), AOL was found not liable even though it had been provided notice about the defamatory third-party content. This is a key difference between the US and other Western countries, where online platforms can be bullied into taking down content.

Has anyone used HBO Max!? It’s terrible! I’m hardwired to the interwebs and it still buffers like a 1997 porno on AOL explorer via dial-up internet connection. Christ, HBOGo worked better than this! Just put all your damn content back on On Demand please! -every HBO subscriber

@simongerman600 Technically, my first email was in 1987. An internal email system hosted by an IBM mainframe, accessed via a PC running an IBM 3270 terminal emulator. For Internet, sometime in the mid-1990's, provided by a long gone startup. I never touched AOL. 😺

@MattWintner @kirthpal The analogy you're missing here, if you wanna talk dot com bubble... Is that Bitcoin is not a company like AOL or Netscape... Bitcoin embodies the ******* INTERNET in this example... And hello, you're on the internet still... Just like you'll be on a Bitcoin standard, albeit poor

@simongerman600 AOL in 1995. I also started law school that year and I think at one point I was given a .edu email account, but I never used it. I didn’t even look at it. Even though we had school email, no one used it for anything. My first law firm job in ‘98 also didn’t have email at first.

This is usually resolved by the platform going under (as with AOL Instant Messenger) but unfortunately Twitter shows no signs of collapse despite making the worst choices
