    the aol vs http analogy is exactly right. walled gardens win early because they reduce friction. open protocols win long-term because they compound network effects across everyone building on them. crypto is http for money and agents. the curated marketplace phase is just the early adoption tax.

    @ABTimothyAuthor Never? Your usage of this platform kinda straight cuts the moral high ground right out from under you. No offense. For the last 20+ years, if you every Googled something, or Yahoo-ed it, or your AOL had mail, your hands are stained with the cubits of AI. Never say never. Never.

  • doolaHQ doola (@doolaHQ) reported

    Arianna Huffington's second book was rejected by 36 publishers. She kept writing. In 2005 she co-founded The Huffington Post with almost no publishing support. AOL acquired it in 2011 for $315 million. It went on to win a Pulitzer Prize.

    @a7madShehata @MBCShahid @AOL I feel the same at least you getting told 48hours I have just been told it will be fixed when technical team are ready and that is it. I can not understand why it is taking so long to resolve considering they know the issue.

  • GenericPlebeian Generic Working Class Citizen (@GenericPlebeian) reported

    Troubleshooting tech problems is crazy because there's no real-life equivalent to the insanity that can happen. If you're installing a door, you don't have to worry about the door ignoring gravity, randomly turning purple, or vaporizing people who somehow still have AOL emails.

  • rcraigy73 rcraigy (@rcraigy73) reported

    @Matt_Pinner 19 never had AOL

  • augmidotworld Augmi.world (@augmidotworld) reported

    Sam Ragsdale's thesis: AI agents can't be distracted by ads. Stack Overflow traffic down 75% since GPT-4. Stablecoins solve the 28-year-old micropayment problem. Open protocols beat ChatGPT checkout the way HTTP beat AOL. AGM's counter: Facebook's walled garden crushed Google's open ads. Farcaster died. Most commerce is emotional, not fungible.

    @bitfloorsghost I can’t even remember honestly. One of my oldest Internet memories is aol chat rooms, the OLD SCHOOL ones you could join from like the main login page lmao

    @a16zcrypto @samrags_ The AOL/HTTP analogy holds because agent commerce requires composability, not curation. Closed marketplaces create friction for cross-platform agents. Open protocols let any agent transact with any service, programmatically.
