All those years ago when listening to the pings of AOL signing in I never expected the net to become such an ******* full of argumentative ********.

AOL never did this to me

  • MartyC909 Martin Olague (@MartyC909) reported

@latimes I've followed Warner Bros. and their terrible decisions for 25 years now, starting when AOL/Time Warner sold WCW to WWF for pennies on the dollar. I wish I wasn't surprised.

  • LucidCiC Lucid (@LucidCiC) reported

@konradkopp @sassal0x @insomniac_ac Yeah Network effect definitely worked out for AOL and Blackberry lol there are so many examples of why your network adoption argument doesn't work when something comes out and does everything better and more efficiently. That argument is like saying "well everyone did it"

  • Artemisapphire Tansy Kelly Robson (@Artemisapphire) reported

@mothleton On a geeky note, one of my masters papers eons ago was on the problems of AOL Time Warner as they went global, conflating corporate practices without appreciating differences between comms & creative media arms. Merger collapsed & 20yrs on Warner still struggling

  • TheNPC33 Nick-Player Character (@TheNPC33) reported

Oh, yeah, remember the AOL/Time-Warner merger? Remember how much damage that did only to lose millions for everyone involved? It's like every time WB does a big capitalism, they set themselves on fire and everyone else has to suffer with them.

  • RiverCityDragon Kane (@RiverCityDragon) reported

Warner Bros mergers are usually terrible I find. AOL in 2001 and Discovery now. WB/AOL lost 206 Billion in Stocks and Discovery is bring ****** and cheap with cuts and bad ideas

  • JustMeRachel_ Rachel (@JustMeRachel_) reported

99% will fail; remember AOL, Netscape, Lycos, Alta Vista, Webcrawler, Napster, etc. They were all duplicates with no real utility.

  • nocturnenotwo Nuyoncé Proles (@nocturnenotwo) reported

@francesweetman @underhandrea I was a teen when livejournal, IRC and AOL were social media and thinking back, it was a sign of things to come lol. Digital division in its infancy, but it was never, ever as insidious. Humanity will look back on social media as one of the worst things we ever created.

  • ChillwithRon Ron (@ChillwithRon) reported

@ccmarce_writes true. maybe it's just me, but I find my experience on social media blah. My AOL chatroom days were a lot more, fun, engaging, network and community oriented. it wasn't forced or you had to sign up with an "expert" to learn abt community building. it was fluid and real. fun times

  • zydraate cal ❀o⁂°* (@zydraate) reported

i need that stupid ******* aol shirt dylan had
