@philosophus90 @ETVPod Never did AOL, but I heard about it, like everyone else. You certainly had to have thick skin. I think this discussion often goes sideways because folks don’t talk about policies and implementations. 1/

@HappyBuddha19 @eshaLegal The beginning of the end was the decision by Steve Case to hook AOL into Usenet, and unleash a torrent of AOL users onto that platform with no idea what its purpose was other than AOL customer support.

@parscale You've never had the privilege of having AOL cut off your internet bc your credit card expired & it shows. These things all have contractual obligations. Read the fine print & quit your puling.

@rev_entertain nope. You cannot do **** to private enterprises. Almost. What will happen is an Open Source platform(s) that ppl with reasonable amount of $$$ can deploy within hours. Literally. And it will kill Twitter ad Facebook. Just like Yahoo and AOL got killed.

@AndersBjork2 @IDFSaturn No because it is not centralized. IRC is literally a part of the internet and it's how you would chat with people back in the day if you didn't use a centralized service like AOL, Compuserve or Prodigy.
