@JMReitman @schlaf AOL is the best answer on this thread. Everyone signed up for AOL b/c it was an ISP for dialup. Once people got DSL, AOL was finished. AOL either needed to (1) purchase the broadband lines or (2) develop a search engine & social network, monetized off ads. Huge headstart too.

@tylerehaddad Its like they took the worst parts of the old school internet forums and aol chat rooms then added the most annoying features from twitter/facebook. I'm pretty sure the only reason its still so big is because it did good voice chat, can support huge servers, and they did it first

I miss the days when a new movie or show came out and you didn't know **** about it that wasn't in the trailer because the internet was only for AOL chat rooms and cool DBZ pics and not every bit of speculative news about every piece of content ever conceived.

@02Holden @Greenfleeves Once on, never to come off. 😬 Like the old talk talk or AOL internet, couldnt switch from them for love or money. Ill primarily be using at home, thanks to bloody covid, but will check how to ensure setting it defaulted to wifi. Cheers 👍
