@liturgicalgay 4 points. Never had AOL or MySpace accounts, never used dialup to access the Internet, and I never owned an encyclopedia. (I used dialup, but to access the older Usenet, not Internet. My parents owned the encyclopedia, not I.)

If you didn't type your thought and hit enter ASAP, there was a chance your finely-crafted message never reached the recipient, because their parents kicked them offline while you were typing.

By Fall 1993 those of us who were around in the before-times referred to Fall of 1993 as ‘Eternal September’, because the influx of new users never stopped. 1996 is way too late.
