  • dens Dennis Crowley 🇺🇸 (@dens) reported from Manhattan, New York

If this sounds crazy to you, remember how recently it was weird to chat with random people on AOL (1995) or admit to meeting your bf/gf on the internet (2002) or have "close friends" you may never meet IRL (Twitter in 2010) or talk aloud to a piece of hardware (Alexa, 2014)...

  • Helen_Highly HelenHighly “somewhat in the business of truth”🐀 (@Helen_Highly) reported from Manhattan, New York

@MsHannahMurphy 👆 Whut?! Is this what you were referring to, @dcboyisangry? Or did you just instinctively know not to trust Mvsk with your debit card? Holy moley, I'd rather send my PIN to an exiled prince who asked me for help via AOL.

  • tmrch28 therealsylviaTee (@tmrch28) reported from Manhattan, New York

@hopefulmetsfan @Mets This game took me back to the early days of the AOL message boards where no one was spared when games like this happened This offense or lack thereof is embarrassing While the pitching is doing the job the bats are in a coma Poor max he got the Degrom offense

  • morganwarstler Morgan Warstler (@morganwarstler) reported

@cemerick AOL's problem was that it wasn't publicly hosted and users didn't control their UX. That let you guys turn every ******* website into another app with a big red rope outside that said "you must be smart enough to figure out how to use this" You created so much inequality

  • ginoinlargo gino (@ginoinlargo) reported

@PelotaDawg @Xfinity Remember how hard they made it to cancel AOL?

  • tweetercolorado KellyLovesColorado (@tweetercolorado) reported

@Fivemil @CryptoLawyerz @pmarca As I recall he was originally trying to pitch a video game to Nintendo but thankfully in the end AOL was in the market to piss away it’s shareholders money on bad acquisitions like Netscape and Time Warner.

  • LisaPatelMD Lisa Patel, MD, MESc (@LisaPatelMD) reported

@sspengem I feel so old. Just tried out mastodon and my god, I cannot do this all over again. AOL, Friendster, myspace, facebook, twitter. Want to throw it all in the garbage and meet in a big town square for a coffee face to face with actual human beings.

  • sproingus frisky dingus (@sproingus) reported

Thinking about all these folks getting got and I think the only platform I've ever been banned from was AOL in the late 90s when you got 3 strikes and then poof. And anyone reporting you for saying ***** or **** was a strike. Good times.

  • AliZYousuf Ali Zein Yousuf (@AliZYousuf) reported

@ThatUmbrella I don't get the outrage. Posting someones location has been bad form on the internet literally going back to the AOL chatroom days.

  • BitterswtBunny Carrie (@BitterswtBunny) reported

@FomonJosh @Azi @jack He knew Twitter wasn't sustainable. Musk is just taking it down faster. It will eventually be like AOL or Yahoo. And something new will fill in the void. Hopefully not owned by a fascist regime.
