There's no obvious and direct replacement for Twitter because Twitter is not and has never been profitable. There will be a "next thing," but it will look like something else. AOL charged by the minute, Facebook charges the advertisers. We shall see what's next.

@lucperkins @monkchips I didn't mean to imply that Mastodon is like Twitter. I meant to imply that Twitter is like that weird **** AOL mail thing from 1995 where you could only send mail to other AOL users.
