@redphase @Techmeme AOL did this back then, and I believe got in trouble with the SEC after the fact. (Hazy on that) But now it’s ok bc the SEC is feckless

@SoDaveWasLike This never gets old. I feel like it goes hand and hand with those that still use an AOL email address

@TaelurAlexis Lots! I have 33 years of programming experience. I’ve worked for companies like WorPerfect and AOL, yet I’ve been forced to answer lame questions that I would be capable of solving (given time) in the real world. Knowing shit off the top of your head doesn’t mean you’re smart.

@BackAftaThis Going to the AOL Cartoon Network and WWF/WCW pages before even knowing there was an internet beyond AOL.

@ianediger @SiinthAP @allan_cheapshot Same here. If only AOL/Warner wanted wrestling still on their network at that time. Who knows what the landscape of pro wrestling in the states would be like today.

@aolmail Why must I pay AOL to screen out spam emails? GMAIL does it for free. I pay AOL for my email service. If AOL can't figure out how to screen for spam, perhaps you could hire Google to do it.

@bairay92 Wow that bad from the 90s? So it's like dsl speed as slow as dialup? Does it include sound effects from Aol.. when internet connects? 🤔

@durhua You can't compare the gacha scene of 2016 to the gacha scene of the 2020s, so in my opinion it wasn't all that wrong for GI fandom to be disappointed (not just anniv, lack of communication, slow AOL adjustments, etc.) The only thing I agree was wrong is the review bombing.

@ThanksCancer @saraofswords I hope she is also. I met a girl years ago in an AOL support chat group. She had IBC and I often wonder how she is doing.

I don't know if this will reveal my age and how long I've been alive, but if you think about the progression of internet chat, we had: AOL, Skype, Kik and now we have Discord. Damn! (If I'm missing any, let me know.)

@RottenInDenmark I don't understand how they don't understand this. Is it an age thing? I feel like Millenials learned VERY early that we have to be careful what we say online, esp. while using our actual name. Some of these cancel culture ppl never chatted with strangers on AOL & it shows

@Ron_Freilich @thumbelulu Aye I'm 21 and know what they were, never used one but am very familiar with the concept of AOL and stuff

@Theresaroets911 People have skipped along porn, nastiness, bullying, lies & cruelty for as long as we’ve had social platforms…going back to AOL chats & before that. People haven’t changed. They’ve just become more brazen & disrespectful about it. Society & culture are woefully broken.
