@kevinandbean my brother had AOL and when he died in 2006, I contacted them to cancel. The ******* with AOL kept to his script they use to prevent canceling about how my brother may need access in future to HIS email. I was so angry by time I finally got off the phone.

@BrandonTalks @ChrisPirillo Ugh, I still remember my ICQ #. Not gonna lie, but I still peruse the occasional IRC to this day. As for AOL - to this day I blame them for the onslaught of ads that permeated the 'net. Before them, banner ads weren't a thing. T'was better when they were on their own network.

Like seriously, even back when I was some shitty kid on AOL with the worst screen name imaginable, I knew better than to force anything onto anyone. It’s a basic rp mechanical rule.

As someone who has lived through waiting for AOL to “download new art” over a 14.4 baud connection, I appreciate being able to pull down nearly 14GB of data in about 15 minutes.

@joan_osborne “I don’t think Rolling Stone is a relevant source for anything anymore. They should just shut it down while it still has a soupçon of dignity,” said 1998 to no one in particular. “There’s just too many better sources these days.” Her AOL Instant Messenger dinged. She had mail.

@jennathewitch Definitely counts! I skipped BBSes; went straight from gopherspace to Prodigy/Compuserve. Never had AOL though. :)
