I’m going to be the last person to cancel Netflix, aren’t I? Just stubbornly holding on like the creature of habit that I am, the same way I do with my AOL account.

@kevinandbean my brother had AOL and when he died in 2006, I contacted them to cancel. The ******* with AOL kept to his script they use to prevent canceling about how my brother may need access in future to HIS email. I was so angry by time I finally got off the phone.

Listicles. The most horrible thing that happened in… 2012. Or the golden age of the fax machine. Or 1995 when Microsoft and AOL convinced my grama to join the internet and start emailing me.

I guess I'm old school but Telegram and Discord reminds me too much of 2000's AOL chatrooms. They're full of crap posts and are confusing af. Twitter isn't any better with all the scam bots but at least it's not a scrolling chatroom. I prefer Twitter. Yes I'm old.

@dvel86 It goes to show, they weren't around in the mid to late 90s. They would have never survived an AOL chat room.

@CityLab Though big tech companies never built. Only Salesforce has ever built in San Francisco since the tech bubble! AOL, Ebay, Amazon, Google, Uber, Lyft, Internet Providers, Mobile Phone Companies never built high rise commercial real estate in the US (100 story +).

I think was also a primary reason for its success. It was a platform, not just an app. I've only ever used Twitter through the Twitterific app, which was excellent. The official app sucks, the official website sucks, I'm not into walled gardens (AOL/Facebook). 3/

@hmcrem Please don't, that was the worst system in the world and would leave computers so infected with viruses that it would take me hours to fix. I was a small computer systems administrator, network engineer for the Marines and I hated working on computers with AOL.
