@MrCoolHandLuke @PairoMayniaq @Telegraph Much of the country can't and will never get Freeview or full fibre broadband. In future it will be the same with 4G and 5G and whatever comes next.

@BBCBreaking Not surprised, they are a nightmare when you cancel, even when your income changes when off work. Thankfully got out of it and went back to Freeview.

@retrovinmania79 @NoContextBrits You don't the difference between Freeview/DVB (which is the morden digital version of what you said) and a streaming service that requires you to make a profile account to use the software/service even though you don't like on YouTube. You only pay to get rid of the adverts.

@Stephencheatley @virginmedia Just get freeview or freesat, Stephen. Iโ€™ve got Virgin media broadband and to be fair Iโ€™ve never had any problems.

@JoshCF_ They're a joke now, two years ago the deal was ยฃ45 with basic freeview and Sky Q and now it's ยฃ63. They've also ended customer support on here and UK based customer calls. The app regularly messes up now, doesn't recognise you've paid and you end up getting charged again ๐Ÿ˜‘

@4doorsmorepaws ah that makes sense! never looked into whether freesat got more channels than freeview but i'm assuming it was probably just a signal thing more than anything else lol that sucks ๐Ÿ˜ญ I only remember having to that with analog tv for a while and then I guess we got our aerial fixed

@KarenGr58411658 @DailyMail All paid for with the licence fee, the government does not fund TV transmission infrastructure, this is controlled and operated by the BBC. No BBC, No transmission network, no Freeview. This is why you have to pay the licence for all live TV.

@AnewFrost @2006Sable They will get a warrant and come back with the police so you will only delay things if you never watch Freeview you have nothing to hide When they came I showed them I was watching YouTube and Netflix only with the aerial disconnected. They left acknowledging no licence needed

@LillacTyanu This is the most accurate breakdown in the thread, so thank you. You are right, the fee is for live TV, Freeview comes preloaded, and if you never connect the aerial or watch live you do not owe it. They can chase you, but the burden is on them to prove you watched. That nuance is the whole ballgame. The fee leans on people not knowing they already have the exit. You clearly do. ๐Ÿฆ‹

@codfish246 yuhh i think we had freesat cause of the awful freeview signal, my nan had the exact same box lol (and my grandma had the exact same telly!) upstairs we had a freeview telly and someone had to stand and wave the portable aerial around a bit to get a clear picture

Unsurprisingly, so many things have not been considered with the whole "shutting off terrestrial" tv thing. For instance, companies like BT/EE do NOT broadcast the Freeview channels on their online service in rural Scotland. These come in on the aeriel, the rest through your ...
