Tony Chalcroft (@TonyChalcroft) reported@BladeoftheS I do support the BBC and agree it needs an alternative method of funding. When Freeview is turned off a mix of subscription for drama and entertainment shows and funding from general taxation for children’s, educational and current affairs programmes would seem sensible.

AAC was chosen for Freeview HD because Dolby had no equivalent receiver-mix audio desc'n support in 2009ish when the platform was standardised.

jason_mi7 (@Mi7Jason) reported@WhichUK For live events,internet speed isn’t everything. For reliability/lowest delay, broadcast still wins: Freeview/satellite first,then cable/TV provider. Fibre streaming is great,but usually behind “live”. 5G/4G/Starlink can work well, but depend more on signal, congestion and load.

Road tax was abolished in 1937. Road building and maintenance is paid by general taxation. Revenue from VED just goes into the chancellor’s pot.
