Dave Allcock (@ukaudiophile) reported@Scotsman_Rob @SimonBatesUK Thete is no justification for state mandated support for a broadcaster, there's over 100 Freeview channels, how many get the licence fee?

DEREK HUNT (@Derek959Derek) reported@GBNEWS come on guys sort this out. gbnews has pixilating screening interference uk GB News viewers in the UK have reported persistent pixelation and screening interference issues, especially on certain platforms like Virgin Media and Freesat. These problems are not universal across all channels, suggesting they are tied to GB News’s broadcast quality or transmission settings rather than your TV. 📺 What’s Happening Virgin Media users have noted regular pixelation on GB News (channel 604), while other channels remain unaffected. Rebooting the TV360 box doesn’t resolve the issue, and Virgin suggests checking local service status. BT/EE TV users have also reported widespread pixelation across multiple channels, with signal quality fluctuating despite strong signal strength. Upscaling problems: On newer 4K TVs, GB News looks worse compared to older HD sets. This is likely due to poor upscaling of GB News’s relatively low broadcast resolution. Frame rate reduction: Around mid-2024, GB News lowered its broadcast frame rate, leading to “webcam-like” quality on Freesat. Freesat confirmed they changed how the channel is broadcast, but offered no technical details. 🔧 What You Can Try Check service status: Use Virgin Media’s service checker or call their automated line (0800 561 0061) to see if there are local transmission issues. Run equipment tests: Most set-top boxes allow you to run diagnostics on signal strength and quality. Adjust TV settings: If you’re on a 4K TV, try disabling upscaling or forcing HD mode to reduce distortion. Alternative platforms: If interference persists, GB News may look clearer via Freeview or online streaming rather than satellite/cable. ⚡ Why It Matters The interference isn’t just a random glitch—it’s tied to GB News’s broadcast quality choices (lower frame rate, weaker resolution) and how different providers handle the signal. This means the issue is unlikely to be fixed by simple reboots or equipment swaps.

Peter Wakefield (@pbwake65) reportedDigital Transmission: In 1997, the BBC was compelled to sell off its domestic transmission networks, which eventually became part of Arqiva. This company now manages the infrastructure for the UK's current Digital Terrestrial Television (DTT) network (known as Freeview).

debating not cancelling (@2Sides_1Story) reported@donmcgowan You have to admit the BBC model and size is outdated. We have lots of freeview channels that do entertainment now and it could move what it thinks is value to a subscription service while keeping a world news channel at a very minimal cost. Which could then be covered by tax.
