@edgarwright @broccantyzack @itv2 Would make for a brilliant friday/saturday/sunday triple header. Would love to break it down into how many times a year they appear on freeview TV

  • DarrenClark1971 Darren Clark (@DarrenClark1971) reported from Stainton and Thornton, England

Can’t believe how truly terrible EETV is. Tuning freeview channels is atrocious. Currently get 43, no BBC, ITV or any basic ones using new aerial. If it does find them they just disappear. Bedroom TV gets all the freeview ones and that’s on an old aerial in the same spot. #EETV

@Hazzreid @fitgeek_uk No they make money from commercials. The issue as I understand it is the BBC own freeview and receive money from commercial stations for a channel space. So essentially they can charge for freeview use via a licence fee. Sadly itv sold freeview to the BBC.

  • Cyanosis1966 Cyanosis (@Cyanosis1966) reported

@jonwensley @BATC_London @DPJHodges All the other programming on Freeview is free! If the BBC want to use advertising or subscription that’s up to them, they could install a box as part of the service. Why not have a public vote on this matter?

  • AlexTheGuiri Alex the Guiri (@AlexTheGuiri) reported

@Glostermeteor @MattWWoolwich Nope. The BBC was given a significant uplift in the licence fee to implement Freeview in the early 2010s. It was then allowed to keep that uplift to fund the World Service (previously FCO) and ‘free’ licences for over 75s (previously HMT). Typically it has subsequently reneged.

  • ReverieKW Rev (@ReverieKW) reported

Ok but seriously this is actually **** Switching to streaming only when ~1.5 million houses in the UK still have no internet access and mostly rely on freeview channels for entertainment is awful. What will low economic children have for entertainment now

  • SlightlyRobotic RoboticTextMongler2000 (@SlightlyRobotic) reported

@dangermouse2 @alanshearer @DannoMkII The service isn't the BBC, it's freeview channels and other live TV channels. You don't have to pay it just because you own a device that could do that, only if you use it for that.

  • dcole0007 Danny (@dcole0007) reported

@supertanskiii I want to but I use a streaming service that includes Freeview. I’d like @bbc to be independent of any govt Tory or @UKLabour . It needs to become a subscription service

  • UAhmed Usy (@UAhmed) reported

@bluemoon_mcfc If BT or Sky get their **** together, creating their own show (of which they already have many) and releasing it immediately on a Freeview platform would be a winning move for them. They could even go the full way and employ linekar on it 😜

  • steve44uk Stephen Bouchard (@steve44uk) reported

@AceGerry @ShimonaGordon You need to be covered by a TV Licence if you watch live on any channel, TV service or streaming service - such as ITVX, All 4, YouTube, Sky, Virgin, BT, Freeview

  • Hausofgoochi1 Goo 🦠 (@Hausofgoochi1) reported

@favesass They're forcing them onto the internet, this is insane. We could only have Freeview growing up since we barely had internet access. This is such a ****** thing to do to poor and low income families. Watching CBBC and CITV was literally one of the only things we were able to do.

  • sadforsadboys castillo bIm | FAST TIMES 🇮🇪 (@sadforsadboys) reported

@beth__moreton In saying that, my area doesn't have CITV (or the mux it broadcasts on) on Freeview as it's a relay. So I've never been able to access it via Freeview (but it can be on Freesat which is more of an expense to set up...)
