@BoostTorbay @AndrewBrazier1 Never used the first two options. Very much old school. None of the fancy pants Sky or Virgin Media either. Just plain old Freeview for me

@talkRADIO The ignorance surrounding the model for the bbc is astounding. The biggest issue people have seems to be with bbc news. There is no news stations in the uk that are subscription only, even sky news is on freeview. In addition it is not technically possible for radio stations

  • JoshHarris91 Josh Harris (@JoshHarris91) reported

@chrisbardell @davidschneider If you use a subscription service ie Sky/Virgin then the licence fee should be optional until you want BBC added to your plan (then you pay the fee). If you watch freeview then you pay the licence fee as it’s funding the service you use. Just give people the choice.

@ElaineMatuszew1 @NadineDorries Other TV channels do exist. Not just BBC, and also many of them can be found on Freeview ( not internet / streaming ). Besides, this issue isn't about getting rid of th BBC. It will still exist, but it will be funded differently

  • TweetsinEpping Terry (@TweetsinEpping) reported

@MikeAubury @markdavyd @NadineDorries No they slipped that in so the poor pensioners would have to pay. Now they are telling pensioners you don't have to pay, just watch a blank screen as its scrambled on free providers which include commercial free to air providers. A sick move. Sell off Freeview band width.

  • EastLight EastLight (@EastLight) reported

@CaptainThunk @DefundBBC They could encrypt the signal and make it subscription-based, since every Freeview TV has a card slot (CAM) on the rear for that very purpose. BT Sport used it for a while - no issues. But the BBC always lies and says it isn't possible, and everyone just takes them at their word.

  • Nick2169Bruce N B P (@Nick2169Bruce) reported

@daraobriain £160.44 a year just so I can watch freeview channels because I will not waste my time with crap on BBC CHANNELS only ghosts is worth watching.

  • lewismj_waioeka Michael Lewis (@lewismj_waioeka) reported

@Fionasstalker Great, so anyone that wants to pay for that service should be able to, others on a budget, should be able to opt out and just watch Freeview.

  • mac_critical Mac (@mac_critical) reported

Today I learned Freeview is partially funded by the BBC. I’m sure Dorries has considered all the potential implications should that service end.

  • JebSuspended Jeb The Sociopath Bush (@JebSuspended) reported

@ShineyFx If you even use Freeview ever. You also use it. You do use something it pays for Now that doesn’t equate to you should pay for it. Ofc not, choice is choice But like you do and it will be the case for streaming service eventually

  • coldgooseberry Aℓexªnder (@coldgooseberry) reported

not. The services aren't even comparable. The BBC provides content across terrestrial TV, radio, the internet, iPlayer, and BBC Studios create programmes for other media companies too. In addition to that they maintain the Freeview network, which is almost certainly... [cont]
