How can you charge an existing customer a £999 fee to re-fix the term of their mortgage when @Barclays do it for £35 at a lower %age rate and Leeds don't charge a fee at all? Both with better rates than you. Why should we stay?

Nationwide should have done the right thing and held the direct debit processing until inbound payment resolution had been sorted. Clearly don't think helpfully for your customers.
