-
PublicLikeAFrog (@PublicBogFrog) reported@raheelys Dad was given it at a conference, I think the pitch was you could scan academic cites with it? Never even saw a :c anywhere. It was like AOL keywords that need hardware more than QR codes. Tamagotchi + Monster Rancher would have been a better move.
-
Diane (@pghpeanut1) reported@Jassmini2 19 never used AOL
-
Charlie Kilo (@charliekilo552) reported@MVdlJCardinal I had work email/Internet in 1986 (admittedly at IBM, a tech company) and personal email the same year. TVO provided a free email service long before AOL, Hotmail, Bell, etc.
-
Richie (@MeeSowCorny) reported@FearedBuck this is crazy because in a few years from now we will be explaining how the youth never used google search, similar to how we used to download music or use aol 56k modem
-
Elon Musk is an ******* (@lewlew2025) reported@itsme_urstruly I was there and AOL was never cool.
-
Weissening Blitz (@WeisseningBlitz) reportedMore random memory lane thinking. So, 13yo me on AOL found an RP group populated by a bunch of 25+yo women. You might think giggity, but weirdly, there were times where I was just hearing them out when they had some bad days. Was even one I phone chatted with.
-
Rob (@Rob424336273101) reported@AOLSupportHelp Still need help

🦁 Zilla Dilla 🦁 (@ZillaDilla) reported@SirBylHolte Welp, yer okay in my book, cuz ya sound like a normal human being. I never did 'ebonics' eitha, till early 90's when I first joined chat groups online. Back then it was IRC at first, then actual text in places like AOL groups. NO 'social media', which is ANTIsocial. Couldn't stand the grammar police. On people in "Scrabble" group game back in Mplayer days. I started in typin phonetically where I'm from (born in Lynn, MA) & been faithfully butcherin 'de Englie' eva since. It pisses off the 'better than's" who love correcting others. Sure f'd w/ those who like to ban ya (wayyy before 'algorithms' were around & a great work around for words that would get your ISP auto-banned. Such as "**** & Span" a cleaner we used back in the day. One gal typed her bathroom was **** & span one time & she was auto-banned! Thank you William Michael, for being a decent human being. MummaZ been online longer than many been on the planet & it sure is some good soul medicine for me. SO SICK & TIRED of the vulgar, rude, creepy people who tawk tuff while hiding behind the hand held trinkets of which they're ADDICTED.
-
El Mustachio Elegante (@EleganteStache) reportedThis has been going on for DECADES! I was a senior support tech at AOL right out of college, team lead for the Apple version, helping write scripts & handling difficult cases, including VIPs. They gave me awards. Then I trained my Indian “backups.” Laid off almost immediately.

neneh cherrysis evangelion (@foolyoldaccount) reportedLike, sometimes I wonder how nonces found each other before dodgy chatrooms on AOL started. But **** like this reminds me that they’re pretty open about it, they just pass it off as banter.
