    @KwakuMMNT 112 by default. Jagged Edge were broadcasting to us using 2001 AOL dial up. Horrible signal.

    @neilperkin You'd think they could find a fix. This used to happen with all AOL accounts showing up as 'Virginia' 20 years ago!

    CompuServe when I first got online in 1995, MSN Messenger, the very occasional foray into Usenet. Tried AOL, ICQ, a few others. But never enjoyed them. Had both AIM and Yahoo Meseenger But only very rarely used them.

    @suzetrup @ndigobunting We had a local video rental store that went into providing internet services called Erols that was our first dial up service...AOL came later after Netscape. The 300 baud modem was when I was direct dialing BBS's in the mid 80's pre internet

    @crsofr I remember thinking keywords were dumb. Just type in the URL, heh. I also 'hacked' free internet from bluelight. It was KMart's version of aol, but you needed to have an ad server on your screen at all times or it would shut down.

    @Ranveld The way I see it is VRChat is kind of like AOL and the metaverse will be more like a modern web browser, where you can go anywhere. Yeah, there's a 90% chance they'll **** that up, though its not like VRChat devs will be the good guys forever either.

    i learned to RP in AOL chat rooms, the wild west of the internet. the frontier village. a lawless place with absolutely nothing standing between 12 year olds and the nastiest **** imaginable.

    @Mbswolf @suzetrup AOL was my first dial up... still have fond memories of that time though. Internet was wide open then, but very slow!
