CompuServe when I first got online in 1995, MSN Messenger, the very occasional foray into Usenet. Tried AOL, ICQ, a few others. But never enjoyed them. Had both AIM and Yahoo Meseenger But only very rarely used them.

Latest outage, problems and issue reports in social media:

  • TedInJest
    TedInJest (@TedInJest) reported

I’d send 350,000 emails to subscribers at 4:00 AM every day back in 1997 using AOL. The “To” field took 1,000 email addresses. BCC’d them. 350 copy-and-pastes to queue them. It would take 30 minutes. Then one click to send. They’d all opted in, so never got TOS’d.

    🌦💙Cyen💙🌦 (@studiocyen) reported

@HistoryofHyrule AoL was the first Zelda game I played so I didn't think it was "bad" because there only two games in that series. Even now I don't think it's bad. It's just different. AoL was hard though so I never finished it, hahaha.

@79SemiFinalist Not to talk your ear off about it. I've become intrigued by all this over the last couple of days. And the social network with the built-in police scanner that's been banned by so many instances that it walled itself off like AOL is a fascinating discovery you've led me to! :)

  • veggie64_leslie
    Nurse Ratched (@veggie64_leslie) reported

@philly_bernie @Timcast Yeah, I used to frequently throw my hook in the water and give them plenty of line before I brought it home. Until they because so stupid they never accept logic and so toxic and hateful they threaten you But I enjoyed many years of it. Starting on AOL chatboards

  • NadasisSadan
    Nadas 🐀 (@NadasisSadan) reported

@BewareOfMaya I'm new to what, mate? I've been on the internet with BBS's on DOS with a 386 since I was a kiddo. AOL is stupid new tech to me, bud.

  • GilRGlover

@ianbremmer #Twitter has never caused or resolved any significant problem in its relatively brief 16 years of existence. We will miss it like we miss AOL chat rooms.

  • neutrino78x
    Brian (neutrino78x) (@neutrino78x) reported

@PatriotColin @Weezeytimes @elonmusk Well I nean, the username would be different, so I'm not too worried. I sure as **** am not going to pay for chat. This is not AOL this is not 1995. I remeber 1995 well, I was a senior in hs. World has changed a lot. Ironically AOL is now a free service so there you go.

@wumbummer Haha, okay, that's perfect and always too true BUT- there are non-Nintendo mags that liked it too and so many other Nintendo games that year were great but players picked AoL so it kinda illustrates people didn't think it was as awful as the rep it got from later internet gossip
