CompuServe when I first got online in 1995, MSN Messenger, the very occasional foray into Usenet. Tried AOL, ICQ, a few others. But never enjoyed them. Had both AIM and Yahoo Meseenger But only very rarely used them.

  • JL_BrentfordFC Jamie🐝 (@JL_BrentfordFC) reported from Hounslow, England

AOL would never go down. Is AOL still a thing?

@AOLSupportHelp I’m trying to get into my email password help

@KwakuMMNT 112 by default. Jagged Edge were broadcasting to us using 2001 AOL dial up. Horrible signal.

The first PlayStation came out, and Macs transitioned to Power PC. AOL is launched. Amazon was founded. Microsoft announces it will no longer sell or support the MS-DOS operating system separately from Microsoft Windows

  • slavicking18 Paddy 🇵🇱 (@slavicking18) reported from Windsor, England

I still have an AOL email address so never question my loyalty

  • JosaKeyes Josa Keyes (@JosaKeyes) reported from Ealing, England

@Miss_Snuffy Self pity finds many friends online from the earliest days of community forums up to today's toxic social media. "Share your support" we used to say at AOL and people did and lots was valuable, but a deep streak of 'alternative truth' bedded down there too to solicit attention.

  • 8outof10blog 8/10 (@8outof10blog) reported from Barnet, England

@reece_dinsdale The other two are "Welcome to AOL: you're connected!" and "Goodbye...th-that's it." Damn I need to put these on my new laptop!

Latest outage, problems and issue reports in social media:

  • ca_bamafan Jim B (@ca_bamafan) reported

Come on @Ask_Spectrum for as much as you charge for internet. I should never have any buffering. Reminds me of the @AOL days and dial up

  • AdynMikael Mikael Adyn (@AdynMikael) reported

@MrDDart1 Never really got into Crypt of the Necrodancer, so I've yet to pick up Cadence as result. Seems like decent game if it's your sort of thing. Though I wish they would get some indie teams to make traditional 2D Zeldas or other series. Maybe a hand drawn sequel to Zelda II AoL.

  • jimmygunawanapp BLENDER SUSHI ULTRA 24/7 - Blend Love Peace 4 All (@jimmygunawanapp) reported

@nrose Legacy email, and GMail has been a weird affair, it's my "main email" but I only need it to activate Apple iCloud back then and I need GMail to properly activate Google Service, YouTube etc. The rest of email service is weird... Microsoft Hotmail, never AOL, weird Yahoo! mail.

  • lafemmetopaz Vikisha ✊🏿🎮💚##FearTheDeer (@lafemmetopaz) reported

@EverbornSaga Netscape. I bet $20 he never, ever used Netscape in his life. In fact, its full name was Netscape Navigator. I loved Netscape but the browser war hurt it and AOL bought them. I know he calls himself trying to reference mid 90 anti trust law suit and that it can happen again.

  • SixtySecDragon The Man, The Myth, The Legend (@SixtySecDragon) reported

@BadLegalTakes I green up an employee of Wendy’s and now serve AOL? Damn. I need to move. Does AOL do anything?

  • jsundmanus john sundman (@jsundmanus) reported

I knew there was (at least) 1 reason I never upgraded MacOS on my old 2014 vintage MacBook: I upgraded to Big Sur today, and now I have no way to read 100's of old AOL chat transcripts. Anybody got a lead to a file (Mac, Linux, Windows) that can read AIM transcripts?

  • shaun_haney FroggyJS (@shaun_haney) reported from South Hill Palisade Mobile Home Park, Washington

@GrahamTheDev @ImZackAdams They actually make horrible coasters. Back when they said AOL on them, I would insist they'd get better at being coasters with practice.

  • TiricoHairline Cucci Mane (@TiricoHairline) reported

OG LiveJournal was the ****. We all had the AOL type screen names, Onebrownman26 lookin ***.

  • 0xarkonviox Arkon Asinorum (@0xarkonviox) reported

@xyztoni I see ppl mention AOL. In the 1990s it has all aspects of a social network, a messenger, chatrooms, and more. If that counts then AOL for me. Back in the day you had to have their App and service for that. Stuff like that couldn't run in a browser without Java applets

  • Foone foone (@Foone) reported

the site still has a profile entry for your AOL instant messenger username. AIM was shut down 5 years ago.
