The first PlayStation came out, and Macs transitioned to Power PC. AOL is launched. Amazon was founded. Microsoft announces it will no longer sell or support the MS-DOS operating system separately from Microsoft Windows

@Miss_Snuffy Self pity finds many friends online from the earliest days of community forums up to today's toxic social media. "Share your support" we used to say at AOL and people did and lots was valuable, but a deep streak of 'alternative truth' bedded down there too to solicit attention.

CompuServe when I first got online in 1995, MSN Messenger, the very occasional foray into Usenet. Tried AOL, ICQ, a few others. But never enjoyed them. Had both AIM and Yahoo Meseenger But only very rarely used them.

@freialobo You must be young, because no, he absolutely did not. Away messages on AOL instant messenger were around way before Twitter. That's not to say he didn't do a good job rebranding that service as his own.

Anyone ever experience an alarm company that actually admits fault for a false alarm? It was easier to cancel aol in the late 90s. I am a guest in a house surrounded by privileged, paranoid people and they are all sleeping with guns. Cool. No wake and bake for me.

@VerizonSupport I KNOW that! We've been Verizon/AOL customers, using the same Verizon email address for YEARS! I have no problem logging in to the AOL web page or to the email on our iPhone. It's only MS Outlook that's causing us grief.

@0fficerBarbrady @paramountplus @1883Official Biggest issue, people don't want to get rid of Netflix just like 90's AOL, people are use to them. Netflix content is mostly rented and returning to the original owners. The big three are Disney, Comcast, and Viacom CBS (P+) and the new DiscoveryWarner when the merger closes.

I know it's not the same but student loan payments getting postponed reminds me of when I used to get AOL internet discs in cereal for one month of free internet. every month I went to cancel, they'd extended another month. Went on for like 2 years.
