    CompuServe when I first got online in 1995, MSN Messenger, the very occasional foray into Usenet. Tried AOL, ICQ, a few others. But never enjoyed them. Had both AIM and Yahoo Meseenger But only very rarely used them.

    The first PlayStation came out, and Macs transitioned to Power PC. AOL is launched. Amazon was founded. Microsoft announces it will no longer sell or support the MS-DOS operating system separately from Microsoft Windows

    @KwakuMMNT 112 by default. Jagged Edge were broadcasting to us using 2001 AOL dial up. Horrible signal.

    @smallcorgi Yeah, haha. I learned on AOL chat rooms at 14 but most of my **** was innocent with enforced mods. I can't imagine being a 12 y/o on MG and having to traipse through the amount of **** fuckery people put each other through.

    @OkazuYuri There's probably an example in the long Time/WarnerBros/AOL/Discovery/AT&T/whatever else chain of buyouts, but I expect that's more an example of a "less awful" company winning out than a "better" one.

    @2000s_web I was working at AOL tech support when this came out, and one of the "teams" changed their name to "Team Badger"... back then, and to this very day, no one could explain to me what this was, why it was cool, and why cartoon badgers were bouncing their scrotums on the ground...

    @Enfi10 @JUNlPER Facebook wasn’t out. I may be thinking more along the lines of MySpace, but people definitely were in ICQ, Netscape, Oracle, Compuserve, AOL Instant messenger, Friendster, and downloading **** off Napster. The early internet was a weird place. Dudes would sit around all night
