  • brokenbottleboy Mic Wright 🏳️‍🌈🏴‍☠️ (@brokenbottleboy) reported from Poplar, England

When it first arrived — and I made a blog there within the first two months of its public existence — @tumblr was the near perfect blogging platform. Then AOL destroyed it. Now it’s a horrible jail where I can’t get rid of this dumb screen. Thanks @automatic.

  • broad_thomas Tom Broad (@broad_thomas) reported from Bexleyheath, England

Can safely say that @AOL @aolmail @AOLSupportHelp have proved to have the worst customer service I have ever experienced. No way of contacting other than email, no acknowledgement that Mail account can’t be accessed, no way of resetting password. No help at all. Disgusting.

  • MrM0n0p01y Jason Ekberg (@MrM0n0p01y) reported

@AOLSupportHelp hey there... I want to run my newest filters on the mail already in my inbox, but I'm not seeing any "run now" options.. I've accumulated about 40k emails and am trying to clear them out, so I would like to be able to run my filters to help clean them up..

  • jwag06 Science Also Said The World Was Flat (@jwag06) reported

@SouthwestAir It astounds me that you actually charge for "internet" for your flights.....I am A List Preferred so I don't have to pay....but the quality of what I get reminds me of AOL. Half the time it doesn't work..when it does it's unstable. When will it upgrade?

  • FlorenceHRScott Florence of Northumbria (@FlorenceHRScott) reported

At this point four separate men, after hearing I write an email newsletter, have responded by asking if I'd like them to sign up with several email accounts to give me 'a little boost'. My newsletter has 20K subscribers but sure Liam help me out and sign up with your AOL.

  • JasonJo16066145 Jason Johnson (@JasonJo16066145) reported

@sampullara @elonmusk From my experience slow connections are the result of redundant data requests. Sure bottlenecks & connection speed plays in but how much code needs to be redownloaded every time I change areas in the app vs using existing cache data. AOL was the worst.

  • ccodfp ccodfp (@ccodfp) reported

@zodiam1 @aMythicWitch yes. remember those chat rooms that you’d issue a command and some bot would forward you 100 emails with attachments of software you chose. hilarious they were using aol’s storage for that.

  • VidiotBox Matt Reyes (@VidiotBox) reported

I'm downloading my Twitter archive, simply because I've spent time here refining big thoughts down to concise and precise wording, and I already went through losing bits of my consciousness like that with AOL, MySpace, hard drive crashes, and a CPU theft 22 years ago. Not again.

  • foomper Ken Scott (@foomper) reported

@steve_vladeck In the 90s, I once shut down a server that the owner of the house I was housesitting at ran for his blues band to make aol run better so I could find chicks.

  • 0xstark Josh Stark (@0xstark) reported

@jbrukh It's a bit like if in 1999 AOL was revealed to have been doing horrible things w/ user info, stealing CC numbers, etc., and gone bankrupt and been discredited. Was it a killer app and the face of the internet for many early consumers? Yes, but...

  • TVGrimReaper TV Grim Reaper (@TVGrimReaper) reported

@stetho I was part of the team that licensed AOL software to Apple for eWorld. Great deal for Apple to replace AppleLink, terrible deal for them to try and compete with AOL which is why it went down in flames.

  • CaponeTeaches steve capone (he or they) MA MS (@CaponeTeaches) reported

@AuthorEdenC I count on my writers’ groups for IRL contact, but I will truly miss the positive connections I’ve made on Twitter. Is this what Gen X felt like when aol shut down? Wait, you say it’s still going?
