@anildash I can remember Microsoft trying to launch their own network to compete with the internet or so it seemed, I joined got an account then had to wait about an hour, via dialup, to cancel it, back to AOL it was for me.

I also went through Judge Ellis' decision in Noah v. AOL Time Warner, Inc., 261 F. Supp. 2d 532 (E.D. Va. 2003), in which he asserts that a social medium Interactive Computer Service (AOL) is not a public accommodation that provides a place of exhibition or of entertainment.

AOL used to dominate internet providers. Yahoo used to dominate search. Then better products came along. This will be how BTC and ETH go in the next decade. Hard to envision now. But they are both broken beyond repair.

@pribea3 @gelliottmorris And that time probably cost $5 if you were out of free AOL minutes. And Gods help you if your parents needed to make a call during that time.

@AlecStapp AIM worked fine broken off from AOL. The thing you really want divested from FB is the identity management part. It should be separate from all the user-facing services.

Why are they removing functionality? I just don't understand how they can screw up a messaging app so badly. The UI is god awful, and it's still missing the most basic functionality we had 25 years ago in AOL Instant Messenger. I don't get it.
