@anildash I can remember Microsoft trying to launch their own network to compete with the internet or so it seemed, I joined got an account then had to wait about an hour, via dialup, to cancel it, back to AOL it was for me.

@theretrobyte I think I would still have been with Dungeon/FlexNet back then. Never used any of the likes of AOL, Freeserve, etc.

@BekoUK I bought a Beko VCS5125AR Upright Vacuum Cleaner in Red from AOL 27/2/21 and in the past week it has cut out after using it for 10mins and did not restart for 20mins. Not happy. I would like it swapped for a hoover that works competently for the use it was bought for!

@JettuJagga @ZuzuQueenOfMars Back in early 1994 the AOL interface for chat was a lot nicer than IRC. Plus, many places didn't get any ISP service companies in their area until mid 1994. The 1st ISP in my town had techs who couldn't work with Macs. Everything was a Mac fault...

@can_tdisplay I’m as GenX as GenX gets. Went to college writing letters, left with AOL. While there: First Gulf war. Nirvana exploded and died. Achtung Baby and The Chronic came out. Rodney King/LA riots. Magic Johnson got AIDS. First PC/cancel culture wave. I am the sum of all your Gen X.

A lot of companies participate in M&A, whether as the buyer or the seller. It’s too bad too many companies use M&A to buy the past, versus buy the future. In 2000 @aol bought @timewarner for >$180B, to this day one of the largest M&A deals ever and one of the worst.

Hey @Apple why did my contact list randomly update? An AOL screename from 100 years ago was added as a new contact and a note I had saved in a contact since the beginning of time is vanished. Thanks for being a piece of ****!

@intocryptoverse I remember when Sears, blockbuster, gateway, Friendster, MySpace, AOL, Netscape, Yahoo, circuit city, Best Buy, Macy’s, GameStop, Playboy, Walkman, Discman, VHS, DVD, DLP, Plasma, 1080P, 4K, iPod ect were king. Bitcoin is on borrowed time. Slow Network effect, no utility still.
