@BekoUK I bought a Beko VCS5125AR Upright Vacuum Cleaner in Red from AOL 27/2/21 and in the past week it has cut out after using it for 10mins and did not restart for 20mins. Not happy. I would like it swapped for a hoover that works competently for the use it was bought for!

AOL have deleted more than half of the saved emails in my inbox and now I’ve lost the email containing the serial codes for Eleanor Forte AI, Synth V Studio Pro and Natsuki Karin AI. I’ve managed to send an email to Anicute but AHS want a support number (was in a deleted email…)

  • hikariuk
Chris Crowther (@hikariuk) reported from Maldon, England

@theretrobyte I think I would still have been with Dungeon/FlexNet back then. Never used any of the likes of AOL, Freeserve, etc.

  • ElvinBox
Elvin K. Box MCIOB MBA(Open) (@ElvinBox) reported from Basildon, England

@aolmail assume the email telling me my request to terminate my AOL account; which of course I did not, will be carried out in 3 working days, is obviously a scam email? Many thanks in advance xx

@anildash I can remember Microsoft trying to launch their own network to compete with the internet or so it seemed, I joined got an account then had to wait about an hour, via dialup, to cancel it, back to AOL it was for me.

@Carpetpatch1 @OrevaZSN you act like AOL went extinct when 2000 came around. And honestly don’t give a **** about what it looked like back then. Everything yall had, we have now x10 and some more. Tf are you saying?

@boomer_btc @CitadelDaniel I had a joke that Primal was the AOL of Nostr but looking back it didn’t cause the network effect that AOL did. Both were UX quantum leaps -the internet was ready for it. Nostr not so much.

@DaddyWarpig Based on how utterly ******* ignorant AOL news headlines read in 2003 before the Iraq invasion, this doesn't surprise me in the least. I expect it to be this bad or worse now.

@jamusp Yeah, but their servers are all still running Win2K Server and Bob lost the database passwords when AOL took them over That's really why they won't change it--Vivian in the Mail Room has them written down on a PostIt stuck to the backside of the plotter printer, but don't tell anyone. It's hilarious watching Bob grumble and act like he's not still looking for it every morning while he tries to make his coffee last him until lunch since they caught him using a 2nd K-cup but he only bought into one share of the employee coffee pool Bob's a douche. He also manages their social media accounts, btw. Just sayin'

@pennyelizabeths I've been online since before people had heard of AOL. I've seen the technology advance. Mass gov surveillance is always a threat has never relied on any one technology, how Flock works and is used is a threat to civil rights and data centers, which long preceded it, are not.

  • Paul__Walsh
    Paul Walsh (@Paul__Walsh) reported

There’s a white paper to be written on this. I was a beneficiary of IDA Ireland when I started at AOL in a portacabin with 20 people in Tallaght, before AOL became the second company after Oracle to open an office in East Point. So I’m thankful because it gave me a solid foundation for my career. Ireland’s reliance on US tech companies is now a massive problem. They now have significant leverage with government. AI data centres is probably their endgame.

@pinktastic615 AOL...heard some horrible things bout them after all these years! Mum used to write letters, and send photos to family, but most never bothered, so she finally just stopped! Now, I only keep in touch with family/friends back home, and they always reciprocate!

@Irina_exh Never had an AOL address no matter how many times they tried to get me. All other boxes checked
